Capitalism requires constant growth to perpetuate itself, minus the baked-in economic collapse every decade or so. It needs people to buy random things, otherwise line not go up ):

Because it does (I know that sounds like a non answer but lemme expand).. If we want the prevailing beliefs around how we consume our world to shift people must understand how we get the raw materials, how they are manufactured and the sheer use of clean water used in that sector alone. The economy is global and so are governments. The connection between the economy and what they look like under different governing systems matter. What a country exports is calculated in their "worth" as a country (the metric of money as a means to determine value is problematic in itself but I digress). I have studied more on the social aspects of why we do what we do as a species but those out there with econ and international government knowledge help us out with some examples, I am always better with examples myself. We need much deeper conversations about this if we are going to change what we are doing to our home and each other. Why do we do the things we do?

Your local government? Well that socks. As a resident though you have so much power in creating awareness and change. Working locally is rewarding, the results are right there to experience.
