We make a lot of silly decisions when we come of age, but this 19-year-old girl probably made the smartest one she could. She got vaccines. Six of them. For us, being pro-vaccination might not sound like a big deal, but her anti-vax mom completely lost it, and someone on the internet documented her entire Facebook rage rant.

People have been destroying anti-vaxxers for a long time, but when nobody shuts them down for a duration of a full conversation, we get a good glimpse of what goes on in their heads. Weirdly enough, nobody talked about vaccines and autism, as this is usually the most prominent theme for anti-vaxxers to discuss. Scroll down to check out why this anti-vaccination mom and her friends felt “heartbroken” after her daughter went to the doctor to get an immunization, and let us know your thoughts about it in the comments!

Holy s**t. I was not aware that so many people where this stupid. "Dont get vaccines that help you to not get sick". " They will make you sick". "Yes, the dead, miniscule amount of germs will make you sick.

Wow. What a pip. Classic child abuser. She's actually hunting for sympathy because her daughter doesn't want to die from cervical cancer. She's a piece of work. ...One thing the daughter can do is tell her physician that her medical information shouldn't be sent to her mother any more. She is a legal adult and she has the right to keep her personal information private. ... I suspect that if she does that, Mommy Dearest will threaten to take her off insurance, but that will just prove that she needs to get away from her abuser.

I would like to take a moment, while we're talking about vaccines, to talk about autism. Autism is not caused by vaccinations. The cause of autism is unknown, and scientists are working really hard to find out what causes it, but we know for sure vaccines are not the answer. Now, I would like to talk about autism itself. Autism is a developmental disorder that is on a huge spectrum. I myself was born with very mild autism, meaning I can go about my normal life most of the time with some social difficulties. However, it can range to the point where some cannot speak, and still need help with basic tasks. Ok, now that I got that out of the way... Please do not talk to people with autism like babies! It drives me mad! Also, please, do not talk about a person with autism to another person when the person with autism is nearby! We can hear you just fine, we're not stupid! Thank you for reading my rant. If you have any questions, comment below

My nephew was born with severe autism and has a lot of difficulties, but I never speak to him like a baby. I can tell he understands everything that is said to him, but he has trouble communicating what he is thinking or feeling. Sometimes people talk to him like he's stupid and it makes me angry. The kid has a memory like a steel trap. I see him every weekend and as soon as i walk in the door he begins his routine of asking me a lot of questions (where's my house, where's my clothes, where's my car Sandy, etc.) He has a long list of questions and every so often he'll throw in a question about something he heard or saw months ago. His memory is amazing. He is truly special and gifted and i wouldn't change him for the world. But to make a long story short, thank you for bringing up the fact that is has nothing to do with vaccines and especially for asking people to not treat people with autism like they're babies.

So much people without any medical/scientific/AnythingUsefulInThisSituation formation, who still think they KNOW how vaccines work after 5 minutes of research on google...Pitiful, but Isaac Asimov was right saying "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge"...and not only in US, sadly...

I had Guillian Barre syndrome and am not allowed to take several different vaccines, so it is crucial that those around us are vaccinated!!! I was also a child born with a faulty immune system and was sick with everything except measles. Anti vaxxers are deadly to people with compromised immune systems!!!

That's another thing people don't consider, is that some people are more susceptible than others, so when you don't vaccinate your child you're not only putting them at risk, but someone else's kid too

I agree, but in this case, the anti-vaxers believe vaccines are actual poison, so they think they're saving their lives. It's a bit like when your parents teach you against drug abuse, for example. Sure, we know about the importance of vaccines, but these people believe in conspiracies.

She raised a young woman who felt strong enough in her own beliefs and decisions to go do What she felt was right for her body. If the mom did her best to educate, isn't it saying something that the daughter is smart enough to make her own choices? Did she want to raise a person who only thinks just like her?

I'm truly horrified. I have a rare primary immunodeficiency disorder and I cringe every time I go into the doctor's office and there's some person (most likely not vaccinated) coughing their germs all over. I get every vaccine that I can, but some don't "take". I have no immunity to measles, for example, and I get warned whenever there's a local case. Then, I have to stay inside to avoid those who haven't been vaccinated. I was hospitalized with flu complications before vaccines were readily available to me. Because of my immune disorder, every time I get something minor like a cold, it escalates and I get very sick. I cannot believe that there are still people out there who think that a vaccine is dangerous. Those are the folks that I'm afraid of ... their ignorance may kill me some day.

I can kind of understand from their perspective *if* they truly thought they were having to decide between autism or the chance of contracting an illness; that would be a tough call for any parent to make, but it’s cases like yours that truly devastate me. People like you are counting on the rest of us to not get them sick and it’s not fair that you have to be scared of the world. It wasn’t your choice to be immunized-compromised, and it shouldn’t be theirs to put you in danger by not vaccinating.

First of all, the anti-vaxxers show a clear prejudice against autism. o what, if your child is born autistic? How is that any different from having a child being born with one less/one plus chromosome (which has nothing to do with vaccines but with genetics, pure and simple?). Do these people support "eugenics" as well? Refusing to vaccinate your child can harm a community, a city, a whole country. Out of "beliefs". In this context, I would call the anti-vaxxers *fanatics* - people that believe in something with such determination that they simply shut their ears because their brains no longer function alone - they're on a heard level. I've never heard anything good coming from fanatics. By the way, autism is not at all bad as they try to picture it. Is it a little more difficult to raise andrelate to an autistic child? Indeed. But it's even harder to bear with the death of a child that could have been prevented. http://autismmythbusters.com/general-public/famous-autistic-people/

If I ever have a child (I hope so, I can't yet due to a disease) I will vaccinate! I'd rather want my kid vaccinated than the poor kid getting polio or another horrible disease. And if my child gets a reaction. Well, that's sad. But better a reaction which will go away. And to the people claiming vaccinations cause autism. Well, I'd rather want my kid to have autism than polio. My SO works with people who have different forms of autism. They live on a farm where they are taken care of. My SO is one of the caregivers. I'd rather have this happen than my child getting polio or another horrible disease. Though I do not even believe vaccines cause autism. It could have been there from birth and develop further. And then they can get symptoms after the vaccinations. It doesn't mean that the vaccines CAUSE autism!!!

And to the people wishing this girl harm because she got herself vaccinated.. Oh I can't describe it. This makes me so angry. Wishing harm to a very clever 19 year old, just to "prove" their ‘right’. They need to be shamed for the rest of their lives! What kind of person wishes harm to a healthy person? That is just sick. I have 2 diseases myself, and even though I have excruciating (indescribable) pain 24/7, going on 12 years now, I would not wish this to my worst enemy. (I don’t have enemies, but if I had them, I still would not wish this to them). This is my opinion. I am glad I see my opinion shared a LOT over here. There are still smart people in the world who listen to very well educated doctors who studied extremely hard to help people with medical problems of any kind.

I've met far right and far left people who are 'anti-vax', and one far left guy who is that way does feel strongly that the scientific consensus on global warming/climate change is true, and that evolution is biological reality. I agree w/ him on the latter two points and asked what is is epistemological basis (way of knowing) those latter points? His response: the scientific consensus. So then I said, so what about vaccines? Isn't the scientific consensus that they work well and don't cause autism? He got angry.

Dear God. "I hope she doesn't die!" In countries without easy access to vaccines, kids walk for DAYS to get the shots that they know can save their lives because they see what life is like both with and without vaccination, and they know life without vaccination is very dark indeed (particularly when you aren't fortunate enough to be benefitting from herd immunity). I just can't.

All this hand-wringing about how her child has deceived her. What a narcissist! And all of her "groupies" clamoring around her. This is absolutely insane. Her daughter is an adult, she can make her own decisions. What if any of these children of "anti-vaxers" want to be in the medical field or travel to underdeveloped countries? They have to have vaccines for that. If there only argument is the fear of getting Autism and/or being pumped full of chemicals, I have three points. 1. We eat chemicals, we bathe in chemicals, we breathe chemicals, we clean with chemicals- so unless you live like a bear in the woods, you are going to come into contact with chemicals. 2. Autism is typically diagnosed before the age of 2- there are no cases of "Adult-onset" Autism and 3. It has been researched and proven that there is no direct correlation between vaccines and an Autism diagnosis. And, lest we forget the rest out break of small pox and other nearly eradicated diseases because of anti-vaxer's.

We three sisters had polio in 1953, before Jonas Salk found his vaccine. My sister was in an iron lung at age 10. Every morning the kids on the ward said their names, so the kids could all know who had died in the night. At 73 she still has nightmares about it. My bones were malformed and I was crippled and in agony, walking on the insides of my ankles until age 62, when there was a surgery to rebuild my feet and ankles. If you decide not to immunize your children, be sure you are ready to face them being crippled for life, or dying a horrible death, possibly taking other people’s children with them. There are lots of worse things than autism.

It is also terrifying that if someone not vaccinated gets one of those terrible diseases we are trying to prevent, it can easily spread to people who CAN'T get vaccinated for legitimate medical reasons, AND even to the people who ARE vaccinated if their immune systems are compromised for whatever reason. Measles epidemics are happening again because of the anti-vaccination whackjobs letting their carrier children around people who could potentially get sick. It's gotten bad enough that I am considering home schooling my VACCINATED children just to try to avoid the chance that little Timmy in their class isn't vaccinated and has somehow started spreading whooping cough or some other DEADLY disease. Hell, I'm genuinely afraid to leave my home on many days because of this.

Some people are just dumb. Vaccines have saved hundreds of millions more that they have ever harmed (if any!). Just do the maths - the risk is infinitesimal compared to the certainty of the damage these diseases can cause if you are unfortunate enough to succumb. I'd normally say something like, "This woman shouldn't be allowed to breed and have kids", but then we wouldn't have her far smarter daughter around.

I am very disturbed that a mother would publicly post her daughter's health information. Her daughter is over the age of 18 and is responsible for what goes out and what doesn't. I think that the article is definitely worth reposting! except that, in this litigious society, I don't want to be responsible for the spreading of personal information without express permission. I have some choice words for the harpies that are feeding her narcissism, especially the one who hopes that something terrible happens to this young brave woman ("because that'll show her we're right"): May Karma bite you on the a*s and give you all the horrible things that you wished upon someone trying to protect herself.

Probably an anti-vaccination group she belongs to. Honestly, social media sites should use their right as a privately owned company to remove any kind of groups that promote these ideas. They are not required by any law to allow them to spread these lies and filth. I'm honestly shocked that spreading anti-vaccination propaganda isn't against their Terms of Service and End User License Agreement. Hell, it may be. And if it is, they need to start enforcing it.

I understand the distrust of drug companies. And if I had a kid with severe allergies I might think twice about getting my child vaccinated. But ALL drugs can cause side effects in some people, but the danger of the disease usually outweighs the small risk of the vaccine.

Kids with severe allergies and other conditions that can't get vaccinated are the whole reason why it's so terribly important that children that are healthy need to get vaccinated. It's not only for their own sake, but also for the sake of others who can't get the shots themselves and rely on herd immunity. If you had a child with allergies, nobody would blame you for being afraid of drugs in general, I would be too.

Anti-vaxxers are endangering children. Even if vaccinations DID cause autism, which it doesn't, what would you rather have: an autistic child or a dead child. The only thing even remotely wrong with vaccinations is that they hurt like hell, and even then a little distraction stops it all. Just vaccinate your kids already.

When our kids were at the vaccine age, my wife and I were bombarded with the false information about vaccines causing autism among other things. Our oldest daughter had a slight reaction to her MMR so we stopped vaccines altogether and our youngest never got a single vaccine. Fast forward 20 years later and both my daughters chose to have all the vaccinations before attending college. I apologized to them since they both felt we put them in danger by not vaccinating.

Sadly, because these people can become spreaders of those diseases, if you and yours have a compromised immune system due to an illness, or even just having to take steroids for some kind of medical treatment (they can weaken the immune system), you can become vulnerable to these easily prevented diseases. These self-righteous, circle-jerking, idiotic, science denying cretins aren't just putting themselves and their kids at risk. They are putting us all at risk.

The FDA has a black label warning that specifically says NOT to give the new menengitis vaccine with guardasill. It has more of a chance to cause a terrible reaction. If you choose to give your children guardasill, make sure it's not at the same time as menengitis vaccines. Otherwise, I'm shocked at how stupid and rediculous these people sound!

I am a Nurse and studying to become a Nurse Practitioner. I am 100% in favor of the standard vaccinations that are currently on the market--the ones that have had years, and most DECADES of research and monitoring completed on them. They have been tried and proven highly successful, with very little overall risk but for a small few. I don't feel that way about The Giardisil vaccine. It needs further studies completed first, IMHO.

I am glad I leave in a country where vaccines are compulsory and enforced. Schools don't accept kids who did not get their vaccines. Rightfully so as kids catch illnesses so easily and they can spread quickly. A parent risks their child's health and life by choosing not to vaccine, unless they keep them locked up inside, away from human contact

It's quite possible that some people have bad reactions to vaccinations. I suppose it could be possible some illnesses that come on much later were somehow influenced by a vaccine, but there is no proof of that. Is (to use an example used by one of the people in the post) the rate of auto-immune diseases higher in the vaccinated than the unvaccinated? If so, show me the research. If not, then you don't even have the chance of a link between the two. Then there is the diseases the vaccines are actually for. Do these parents really believe the imagined risk of vaccines, to perhaps a few people, is more important that the 60,000 lives a year polio used to affect, and the thousands who died from it? They smugly go "while I'm OK" while they rely on the herd immunity (and common sense) of the rest of us to protect them. They may refuse vaccines, but they'd soon be in a panic if we were all so selfish.

Christina Holst

"But I meant well!" doesn't make abusive behavior un-abusive. That's the ugly thing about abuse. Many parents aren't aware of how cruel they are to their children because they think spankings/beratings/privacy violations/refusing to see a doctor when sick/pumping bleach up their kids' butt will do their kids good and help them to become better and healthier. Think of that one couple who treated their baby with essential oils and homeopathy, and the child died. They did not intend to torture and kill the child. But if these actions weren't considered abusive but just being an idiot, they wouldn't (rightfully) dragged to court. Being an idiot isn't punishable. Being abusive is and the motivation doesn't matter in the end if there's a suffering victim.

I'd really like to beat the c**p out of all these so called parents. I swear the anti-vaxxer movement is just pure evil. They whine about imaginary toxins in vaccines, but give their kids bleach enemas - that's right - BLEACH ENEMAS! They call it Miracle Mineral Solution but it's really BLEACH. Autism has always been around. It's nothing new. It's just instead of blaming it on fairies like we used to (look up the folklore on The Changeling Child) we now know there's a medical reason - and now we know the reason. We're all born with a slew of neurosynaptic cells in our brain and we have a gene that tells us to "prune" them during our development in the womb. Well, people with Autism don't have that gene and therefore they don't do that pruning. So you're BORN with Autism. It's NOT caused by vaccines - which are safe - they're NOT caused by GMOs - which are also safe - they're NOT caused by chemtrails - which DO NOT EXIST - it's just caused by biology.

Wow! I am shocked by the ignorance and stupidity that people continue to believe that vaccines are the cause of....well... every disease or disorder. I am so tied of these people and their ignorance. One way that you can "adjust" their attitudes is make them financially responsible for any and all medical bills that a family incurs when the non-vaccinated kid infects another person. I say person instead of child because along with infants being too young to be vaccinated, the elderly, cancer patients, and others who's immune system is weak or compromised for whatever reason can be infected by the kid that has been infected and may be spreading measles, for example. Who should pay those bills? I think the parents of the non-vaccinated kid should pay. Hit them in the wallet. Personally I feel the amount of chemicals that are in our food supply, water and air are the reason for an increase of autism and such.

As a former nurse, the diseases that kill are way worse than getting vaccinated. There is so much out there we don’t know, I feel vaccinating kids prevents them for the bad diseases we do know about and can stop! What if there were no polio vaccine? So many would have died, and did die, or spent the rest of their lives in an iron lung or unable to walk! Who would wish that on anyone? Small pox, OMG, why would you ever, in your life, prevent your child from having that vaccine?! How awful if your child got it, loved and was covered in pox scars for the rest of their life, because you, didn’t want to vaccinate your child?

OK I know very little about the anti-vaccine movement, but why do people think that they're being lied to about the link with autism? After reading this I looked aound the web and although there was a fear of this back in the 90's it's no longer considered a threat and what motive do people think there is to spread autism in kids?

so why do some vaccines list autism as a possible outcome? or, go look at the first reported cases of autism and when the chemical thiomersal was introduced into vaccines, agricultural and wood treatment

This is THE MOST RIDICULOUS thing I have read all day. Thank goodness for medical science, with the Polio vaccine, this HORRIBLE disease has been under control in Africa for decades. Anti vaxxers are all big talk, until their kid, gets something HORRIFIC like Polio and realize that they could have prevented it. SMH

She should have been arrested for child endangerment after missing the first vaccination. No one should have to wait for their own adulthood to be able to protect themselves from avoidable illnesses! If someone chooses to be ignorant for themselves, that's their business but when your made-up beliefs endanger others someone has to step in to protect those who can not protect themselves.

The mother needs to stop with trying to make the child feel guilty, as if she did something wrong. And the people that wised her ill will, you know who you are, how terrible! I hope this child grows to be happy and confident.

I guess I'd better run out and get the Hepatitis B shot that they are giving hours old infants - I'm sure it's only because many infants are sexually promiscuous and are I.V. drug abusers. And why did my mom let me develop life long immunity by getting the "dreaded deadly" measels, mumps, and chicken pox? I've been as healthy as can be for decades now, but I'd better rush out and get the T.B. shot and a list of other vaccines just in case. Never mind about the aluminium and other toxins in the vaccines! They don't do any damage, especially to newborns, babies, and childrens! Who cares, anyway? Not many. That is for sure.

When I first contacted it (did go to doctor and got confirmed) I had a couple outbreaks that year (very painful) and then no outbreaks ever again. Like I said it has been almost 8 years. The only thing I can think I did was I used essential oil applications on my sacrum. I did take anti viral meds the doctor gave me for a couple weeks after the first outbreak to take care of the acute symptoms (I didn’t take them for the 2nd outbreak later that year and now this happened in my life I can’t believe this. It seems really ridiculous that there are those who believe that the vaccine is the enemy. thinking back to the great epidemics that have devastated Europe and America over the centuries, I wonder how happy the sick would have been to know that a simple vaccine could have saved their lives, whereas today these diseases are under control ( but not disappeared, because from some parter a small outbreak of any germ could still exisitere) there are those who prefer to risk their own life and their own figl, ie not vaccinated, so that if there should be a resurgence of infection, they would be the first to succumb . What fools are those who think that what has not been seen for so long has definitely disappeared. here in Italy no typhoid fever was seen for decades, and yet today we have admitted a case of typhoid fever. tuberculosis belonged to the past, yet at infectious diseases we have at least 4 hospitalizations. I myself have been the victim of scarlet fever at the age of 50, because w

My mind is blown. So she's going to be happy if her daughter dies of one of the illness she got a vaccine for? Will she be smiling around the hospital bed saying 'thank goodness you're dying from a disease that has a vaccine you could have got, I'd have hated you to get a vaccine'. It's disturbing. And the other adult's reactions are frightening. If you're worried about autism (even after reading the science.....) would you rather have a child with autism (who are not even sick, just different people in themselves) or a dead child? Hmmmm.............

These people who refuse to vaccinate their kids are gonna end up killing them just because they think they're smarter than a doctor (which they're not) There's also the fact that they're putting other children in danger by having them exposed to an unvaccinated child. A doctor knows best and if you want your child to die or suffer or WHATEVER their goal is then go ahead. You're willing to put your childs life at risk just to be petty but whatever.

The EOB rats out another one. Most teens and young adults have no idea that the insurance company sends the policy owner (their parents) an EOB (Explanation of Benefits) after every time they use medical services. An EOB generally includes the name of the doctor, the date, and any tests or medicines given. Like vaccines. Or birth control. To ensure future medical privacy, the daughter (or any teen on their parent's insurance, or any abused person on their abuser's policy) needs to call the insurance company directly and ask what privacy options they have. Most of the time, you can request the EOB form be sent directly to you, under your name, rather than the policy holder. You might also be able to request they send the EOB to you via email, to avoid receiving paper mail if you're at the same address. If they can't do this, the insurance company might offer "filtered" or "masked" EOBs which will leave off details of the treatment, or conceal the medical billing codes.

I think the mom is very selfish. There are no guarantees about vaccines, but does she have the right to stop her daughter from infecting innocent persons? I also think she needs to read more on the subject and sit with a mother whose child is dying from something that could have been prevented from the use of vaccines.

I was born before they had these immunizations available and thank goodness my boys didn't have to go through what I did as a child with the measles, mumps and chickenpox. BTW, my dad didn't have the mumps as a child and guess who got the mumps about a week or so after my brother and I finished up with ours, our dad. Mumps in an adult male, or one out of puberty, can be a serious matter. It put my dad in the hospital at the time for two weeks.

For the mama: when you grow up with friends struck by polio? You should have vaccinated your girl. You are a very lucky mama that your daughter never caught one of those nasty viruses that could have disabled her for life. At the same time: as a mother you should be critical of anything that you "feed" your kid, whether that is food or medication. I applaud you for being critical, but you should have been more critical of the anti-vaccination program.

"She [the daughter] was more concerned about how I found out." I'm concerned too. Was the after-visit summary mailed to their home? If the mother opened her daughter's mail, that's an offense. If she read her daughter's protected health information, that's another offense (HIPPA).

What sort of parent is not only okay with another person wishing harm on her child, but agrees with that person?! Oh, yeah, the kind who is abusive. Which anti-vaxxers are. We need to start charging them with manslaughter when their sick kids kill babies (which has already happened). Maybe that will wake them up. But even if not, it will get them the f**k off the street.

Too bad Bored Panda seems to think that the Vaccine War is a war of the Righteous against the loonies. Well - in truth there is a lot of good evidence based on scientific facts and studies on both sides. only - guess where the money goes? I for my part am very glad to live in Switzerland where we can make our own decisions. recently a study came out confirming that unvaccinated children are overall healthier...

Domenica, I agree. From now one I will stop visiting bored panda. I have an unvaccinated son of 18 months and trust me he is healthier that any other kid. He had no flu, no alergies, he is full of energy meanwhile a lots of kids of his age (vaccinated) have a lots of allergies, skin irritations, etc. Manny DOCTORS demonstrated that the vaccines are not safe! I made a vaccine myself 3 years ago, and since then I constantly have some allergies and irritations on my skin, it is terrible, I am scratching like a monkey all the time.

I think, I'm general people. Red to be careful of what they read (research wise) on the internet. Internet addresses that end in ".com" are typically individuals or even companies, but the "information" they share is not peer reviewed (or verified). Web addresses that end in ".org" are--look to these, ESPECIALLY when seeking medical advice or information.

I am having a flashback to age 18 when I was away at school and came home for a holiday and had a check up. The nurse called my mother to warn her I might have an STD. It was a yeast infection!!!!! I wish there was a vaccin against the virulent stupidity that is spreading through the "developed" world (most prominently the US and the Muslim world). I hope education is the vaccine. Then again, unfortunately home schooling is allowed in the US, so (on average) ignorant idiots are raising a new generation of ignorant idiots. And in Islamic countries laws dictate that schools need to spread nonsense. There is a ray of hope in this story in that respect: the daughter allowed herself to be informed by a professional instead of believing her mother.

This HAD to be on some sort of anti van Facebook page group. Because I can not see at all this being on a private persons Facebook and that many people agreeing with her. Not sure what this persons way of thinking makes any sense. And it infuriates me that it is fine getting other people sick with serious diseases because they're dumb enough to not get vaccines. I get that people want someone to blame for their child’s autism, I really do. And these people are absolutely CONVINCED they’re sentencing their child to this condition by vaccinating and don’t want to roll the dice. Unfortunately, the more the anti-vaccine movement grows, the less protection these children will have from herd immunity. I am terrified for the future and what the outcome will be. These people are not going to wake up until they’re forced to, and I fear it’s going to take a lot of deaths of innocent children for this to happen.

And In laughing at the fact that her mother seemed like she s**t herself when she found out the way she did. But good for her for doing what she is doing. She's a big girl. She don't need mommy telling her what to do!! Or what she can't get. And if I was this mother's daughter best believe I would cuss her a*s out and put her in her place! In the past few years there have been at least 3 major universities that have published basically that the flu vaccines are not good for you and maybe even bad. They office little to no protection and some may even damage our immune systems. If I remember correctly the American ones were YALE and John Hopkins. Also how many of us who were born in the 50's to early 60's now have simian virus in us due to contaminated vaccines and now have/had cancer????

So. My story. In my childhood and teens I had a phobia of needles and doctors in general (still have it in my forties, learn to control it). They couldn't vaccinate me, because 4 people weren't enough to restrain me, so they could stick a needle in me. When I was 14 however, the high school I really wanted to go to wouldn't let me enroll unless I had the basic vaccines. So I made an appointment by myself, got the vaccines, and finished the school. Since then I am still the only person who can "restrain" me in medical procedures, but I am still grateful to the strict school rules. And I'm happy to live in a country, where basic vaccines are mandatory. The thing that pops in my mind reading about the whole anti-vax movement is something like: F**************ck! Why are there still people this stupid in the 21st century?

My mother is 92. When she was a school kid in the 1930s, she had class mates die of whooping cough, diptheria, polio, and scarlet fever. Vaccines against those things hadn't been invented. When I was a school kid in the 1960s, not a single one of my class mates died of any infectious disease. My kids went to school in the 1990s/2000s and not one of their classmates died of any infectious disease. Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to what made the difference?

It's so devastating to see anti-vax mothers like this... There's so much conflicting information about what's best for your children, and so much pressure on mothers to do the right thing/be super-mom. There is overwhelming scientific evidence that shows that there is no link between vaccines and autism (which sparked the whole debate). But the fear has spread. It spreads through parents and mommy fb groups like wildfire and it's hard to stop because the whole debate targets the justified fears of parents. Even many parents who "accept" giving their kids vaccines, ask to "space-out" the vaccine schedule just to be safe (even though, medically, there's no reason to). Scared/confused parents will look things up online and find things that scare them. Then they "research" it and find more and more like-minded people with the same fears... These people clearly care for the well-being of their children as #1 priority...yet they're unknowingly putting their children at risk. So sad :/

Good for the daughter. The mother should be arrested for attempted murder since vaccines save lives and if you don't vaccinate your children you're saying you want them to die. Susan Smith was more humane in the way she murdered her children than anti-vaxxers are in the way they're trying to murder their's.

Are you serious? Have you looked at the side effects of some of these vaccines? Even as a mom who has vaccinated my kids, it's terrifying getting them injected and hoping for the best. Weighing benefit and risk is the parent's job. And neither choice is risk-free.

We depend on 'herd immunity', so we don't have another polio epidemic or worse. That's why you get vaccinated. I worked near Boulder, CO and talk about antivaxxers- we have pertussis outbreaks regularly, because of these nut jobs. So we have newborns and elderly at risk. These diseases we get vaccinated for are a distant memory for this generation, but ask any baby boomer who had measles, or mumps, or worse- polio. These diseases kill, and can land an adult in ICU. You can't fix stupid. But the daughter should get her mom off her HIPPA- I would like to know how the mother found out.

The FB commentor in the article above, who said "I could totally see my daughter doing that and rubbing it in again and again when she didn't die" is the perfect example of wilfull blindness. It isn't about the facts (which I have a sneaking suspicion she knows are true) it's about control......and thinking that you, as a parent know what is "best" for your child more than someone with a degree. I hope more kids go out and do this when they hit 18.

I admit, when the anti-vaxxers started out - it made me a little afraid. I'm 70 in a few days - have been sick VERY VERY little during my life - My sons got everything available - I HAD the Measles, and Mumps, and Chicken Pox. The boys got the chicken pox, but none of the others, thank God. When I joined the Army, I got 10 shots in one arm (with that nifty little gun thing) and one in the other - one two separate occasions - guess what? I didn't die!!!!!!! Woo Hoo! I would do it again. After all these years, they're probably due again anyway LOL Got a Tetanus again a couple of years ago after I stepped on a nail. THIS woman, in THIS article, is one un-educated person. I have known too many whose lives were destroyed or seriously disrupted by diseases that these vaccines prevent. Friends who survived polio, only one made it without withered limbs. So many friends and family who have dealt with shingles because of the chicken pox, and more. Good for the daughter for taking charge of her own health. These rabid anti-vaxers are only a half step away from thosd cretins who let their children die of easily treated issues such as a kidney or other infection because they will only allow prayers as treatment and refuse to take them to a doctor.

This "mother" is not only highly ignorant and ineducated, she is also deeply selfish. All parents should be OBLIGED to give vaccines to their children. IT is not all about YOUR CHILD, for f**k sake!!. There are other children who cannot get vax due to other conditions. Vaccination preserves the group and it is A DUTY OF EVERY SINGLE ONE to provide their offspring with vaccines. If you don't wanna live in a society, go to a desert island, as the society implies a Group and not a bunch of single people all caring for themselves only. GO VAX!!

Genuinely bad people. If the reason you don't want your kids to have the vaccine is because you're afraid they'll have a bad reaction, why in God's name would they want a child who gets the vaccine to have a bad reaction? They need therapy.

Anti vaxxers are human scum. Their decision to let their children contract things like measles and whooping cough and the full effects of flu after flu when they could at least reduce the *likelihood and severity* of those diseases is torturous, sick, nightmarish abuse. Every last one of them deserve to have their kids taken away, at minimum. Moreso, anti vaxxers deserve to be beaten and kicked off the planet. They're evil, evil, subhuman trash.

Sorry the kid - and so many pro-vaxassination people are so damn stupid. Vaccines are NOT as safe and nowhere NEAR as effective as you are told - by companies that make billions off of them. CDC alone makes $6,000,000,000 per year on JUST their flu shots - and they hold 52 patents in related products - and are a Dunn & Bradstreet private corporation who is owned by the US Govt with 60% of it's shares. Duh - they get $$$ Until you idiots can explain the reason agammaimmunoblobuminaemia proves vaccine theory flawed - just shut the hell up with your idiotic parroting of the "safe and effective" b******t mantra. Until you can explain the OAS - Original Antigenic Sin and understand how this PROVES that more flu shots make your immune system less effective in fighting flu - shut the hell up. Until you can tell me about the S Korean chicken pox history from 2005-2015 and explain away how AGAIN there is zero herd immunity from vaccines - shut up. based upon studies of MDs in the 1930s & 40s and that it ONLY had any effect with NON - VACCINE natural disease events - you won't understand that ZERO vaccines EVER can, have, or will provide immunity. Herd immunity from vaccines is a total myth. You people out here just repeating what you've heard from some money-making "expert" are sick ones. You know so damn little about the subject but are willing to accuse the mother of all sorts of even criminal offenses - Munchausen by Proxy my a*s. You fools don't even know that the flu shot causes more deaths and more damages by number than any other shot - as it makes your immune system less effective. You don't know that HPV vaccines have the highest per capita death/damage rate. You don't know that vaccines have been PROVEN to cause autism - 83 X the NVICP (oh - you jokers don't even know what the hell that is, do you, or VAERS?) had to pay out for PROVEN VACCINE DAMAGES CAUSING NEUROLOGICAL DAMAGE INCLUDING AUTISM!!!! I would be absolutely devastated too. SIX vaccines including one of the most dangerous (HPV)? Luckily our boys have seen first hand the damage vaccines can do in their little brother and are as wary as I am. I'm sure this mum's reaction is funny to some, but when you've seen the consequences first hand, vaccine damage is no laughing matter. It's heartbreaking, and it never goes away. I dearly hope this girl is ok.

For all of the people flipping out, not capable of understanding parents fear over these vaccines...#1 Have you done YOUR research as to what is IN ALL of the vaccines children get?? #2 I know that it is time consuming, and that you may gain some knowledge, but, you had better have a look at the documentary called VAXXED. It is not saying whether vaccinations are good or bad. But, they DO now have ABSOLUTE evidence that the CDC fudged their numbers PURPOSELY.

Shame on you bored panda for this article. Have any of you done the massive in depth research it takes to choose to not vaccinate? no. I commend the moms I know who choose not to vaccinate for the amount of work they put in to make the best decision for their child. I'm talking months and months of legit research. People would have you think they are crazy but believe me they are not doing it on a whim. They are doing more research than they ever have in their lives for what is best for their children. What an ignorant, uneducated lot you are! She is more than justified in her concern for daughter... Toxic chemicals in vaccines are not worth the absolute lack of protection they give you. Autoimmune IS caused by heavy metals and toxins from our environment and vaccines conveniently a*s to the load... Keeping you reliant on doctors and extremely profitable melds for life. "inject good health" yup that works well... Not. Most people are NOT "anti-axxers" but EX-vaxxers, after seeing someone injured, or being injured, like my daughter who got meningitis, a WRITTEN on the vaccine insert side effect of the MMR. She is a legal adult, but everyone should be informed of what exaclty they are injecting direclty into their blood stream... Studies show taht the more educated the person, the less likely to vaccinate... it's not the "stupid" or "ignorant" who are not vaccinating anymore. Could this article be more bias? Probably, but it should at least be respectful of EVERYONE'S choice, including the mom. It is painful when a child becomes and adult and makes decisions alone, good or bad, that are opposite of what they were taught. The old "cut off your nose to spite your face" (or your mother) syndrome.

The number of commentors on this thread who haven't done their homework and actually studied the science is incredible. I suppose most commenting on this thread think that a vaccines contain a tiny bit of weakened or killed virus in a harmless saline solution that helps build immunity to a particular pathogen without really getting very sick. Hmmm... that would be the elementary school level understanding. For starters, creating immunity doesn't actually work that way. Both the innate and humus systems must be enlisted for a true immune response. That doesn't happen by merely injecting a tiny bit of antigen into the muscle because that is not the normal route into the body, the mucosal orrifaces. And that's just for starters. Best to actually research molecular mimcry, polysorbate 80, aluminum and methymercury deposition in the brain, aluminum salts and immune system suppression, and length of efficacy of vaccines for starters. Yes, Darwinism IS in play here.

Before I had kids, vaccines were a given in my mind. The only downside I knew about was the pain involved I getting them. Then I had a baby. I brought my tiny new infant to the doctor, signed a form that said I acknowledged a list of potential side effects (ranging from slight discomfort to seizure and death), and listened to my baby scream while he was injected. I was given a list of symptoms to watch for, in case of adverse reactions. The experience was terrifying. I continued to vaccinate, but I empathize with those who don't. There are risks, sometimes even fatal, on both sides. And in the middle are parents who have to pick the lesser of two evils. We don't all choose the same. How dare anyone say that means the parent doesn't care about their child.

She just sounds like a concerned mother who has a difference of opinion with her daughter. I don't see her as abusive as many of the people who are writing comments seem to describe. Where is the abuse? The fact that she hadn't been vaccinated? The vaccination debate is ongoing for a reason and that is that there is doubt cast on both sides, it astounds me that a debate of such a kind can bring people to calling other people delusional or abusive. Chemtrails, Lizard people, Scientology fascist ideology can all be destroyed definitively and have been by leading universities etc. As far as I understand, the risk of autoimmune disease has not been definitively ruled out. This is a very difficult dilemma for parents, I don't understand how anyone can be an extremist on any side of the debate, nor how parents cannot have empathy for other parents trying to make a decision under these difficult circumstances.

sooo american.....aaaa vaccinations aaaaaa........ people die in Africa because they DO NOT HAVE vaccination. Meningococcen is deadly for small kids.... THEY WILL DIE if they catch it as infant.....and if they are lucky and dont die...the changes of loosing a limb is also big!! AND MENNINGOCOCCEN are NOT a 3 world desease! We live in a world , EBOLA is one flight away.....They are working on finding a vaccin against EBOLA...... If they have it and a world epidemc Ebola situation is happening, i will stand in line for a vaccin!! DO not cry if you get sick, do not go to the hospital if you get a desease that should have been prevented with a vaccin....do not ask for medicin!! JUST GET SICK AND TRY TO FIGHT IT....but dont scare other people of vaccins!!

This is not an "american problem". I had a very gringy talk with a mother in France, that was anti-vaxxer because 2 of her kids were autists. I was sooo sick she was talking those s**t in front of her sons. I understand that having kds that do not enter "the norm" can be scary, that you can be angry and have to find a target for your anger but, it was so heartbreaking to listen to her while she was giving us detail about her kids medical condition (their private!!) and basically telling us she has to live with those difficult kids because of vaccins. For god sake her sons were sitting next to her and I'm sure this wasn't the first time they were hearing all those negative talks about themselves... I feel that in "western" countries we think that we're going to die old and forgot what it is to be scared of epidemics

funny, if vaccines are so safe, why don't the elite vaccinate their children with the same dregs we get? why are countries starting delayed vaccination programs as more research is done on the subject? why does the cdc push to have the population vaccinated regardless of any research literature that is negative towards it?

This forum is also an echo chamber. There are many good reasons to believe vaccines can be detrimental for the health. Arguably, the costs are higher than the benefits for most vaccines. That's if you look at the whole picture, including outside "mainstream" sites. It's amazing the numbert of doctors and other experts that are generally anti-vaxx. That being said, at 19 years old, you can do whatever you want. Getting 6 vaccines was a bad choice especially if the the vaccines incorporated aluminum adjuvants and she got them all at once.

Wow.

People that do not Vax their kids, should not be allowed to have their kids in public school. Vaccinations are a proven science and these losers are holding on to a study that was done by a man who was exposed as a fraud, lost his medical credentials and was sent to prison.

Sadly, because these people can become spreaders of those diseases, if you and yours have a compromised immune system due to an illness, or even just having to take steroids for some kind of medical treatment (they can weaken the immune system), you can become vulnerable to these easily prevented diseases.

My daughter contracted influenza (the big scary one) at 3 1/2 months MONTHS old and then developed a secondary respiratory infection 2 weeks later. She was placed on antibiotics and could have died. She gets every recommended vaccination and I will scream it from the roof tops. She has not gotten any other serious illness in her life. Vaccinate your kids for the good of public health.

I am so sorry to hear you and your family had to go through something like that. If any of my kids get that sick, I have no idea how I would handle it. All I know is that it would be 'not well' to a pretty severe degree.

This woman isn't abusive. She's just a concerned mother who is an idiot. To her its like telling her kid not to smoke her whole life and then she finds out her 19 yr old daughter is lighting up behind her back. She's not abusive, she's an idiot.

Vaccines in theory are great-THE FDA'S INSIDIOUS NATURE OFALLOWING OTHER PATHOGENS TO SECRETLY ENTER THE BODY IS WHAT IS WRONG vaccines = great in utopian theory vaccines in our culture = government secretly puts more in the "vaccine" than that was is told to patient There are more molecules present in an HPV vaccine, than just the vaccine itself.

Hi. I loved your article. It is very well written. I am a layman in the area of nutrition and most of my knowledge is based on internet searches. I have herpes 2. Recently a vegan friend suggested that I could cure herpes 2 on a vegan diet. Funny thing is, a couple of years ago I was asked to cut out on milk by a nutritionist and I did. Of course I did not go full vegan but ever since an infant, I always thrived on milk. but i still say God bless Dr. SANDY for his marvelous work in my life, I and my friends was diagnosed of herpes 2 since 2015 and I was taking my medications, I wasn't satisfied i needed to get the HERPES out of my system, I searched about some possible cure for herpes 2, i saw a comment about Dr. SANDY how he cured HERPES with his herbal medicine, I contacted him and he guided me. I asked for solutions, he started the remedy for my health and my friends, he sent me the medicine through UPS SPEED POST. we took the medicine as prescribed by him and 14 days later we was c

If the daughter did not tell her, how did mother find out?!?! HIPAA prevents medical professionals from divulging her info, even if she is on mom's insurance. She is an adult, she has to fill out paperwork to ok the release of info. I'd consult an attorney. (If mom opened her mail, she's in violation of FEDERAL LAW, if the Dr told her, the Dr is)

Look I´m sorry your daughter went beyond your beliefs, but are they her´s. I am going to side with the daughter because anti-vax just seems stupid. She now has a better chance of living longer. If you don´t like it fine, but do not go online looking for sympathy. Stuff like this stay´s of the internet. You don´t go advertising it for sympathy and so your daughter gets hate comments. You may not like it but it was her choice.

The daughter had to sneak to the doctor to get shots. The daughter was also concerned about how the mom found out... They hope she gets sick from them and that she should be removed from the health insurance. All of this is so disturbing on so many levels.

If someone has a reaction to a vaccine, then that simply means they're allergic to it, like anyone can be allergic to anything. But doctor probably have alternatives for those people, right? (This is a legitimate question)

The one wishing for the poor girl to have a reaction is a psycho!! Vaccines have eliminated some of the most horrific diseases known to man.

So sad :/

Two years ago, one of my best friends died of HPV throat cancer. There is no vaccine reaction that is worse than what he went through or the fact he died at age 56. And don't get me started on tetanus. I ride horses, and tetanus is a major concern. Get those boosters!

Surely this whole conversation is a made up joke. People out there really think this way? That's insane! I mean, to each their own, but I'm so glad the daughter was able to escape this prison her mother fully intended her to choose to remain in. And the people replying and sympathyzing?! Wow. Just wow. I'd feel the same if they were talking about aliens taking over the bodies of people around them.

Read dozens of books about this subject, talk with parents that have kids with severe reactions 2 hours after vaccines, have yourself a strong reaction after your vaccine.... things like these make us to unvaccinate.

I've become more and more aware lately that there are none so blind as those that will not see.

GO VAX!!

That was intensely stupid. Thank you for demonstrating that antivaxxers are idiots.

The comments here are incredible. People insulting a woman they've neither met nor probably ever will. How's about you all get back in your box and shut the f**k up. Especially as it's about a topic you obviously know sweet f**k all about and most are simply regurgitating drug company propaganda

I hope her mommy doesn't have to say to her those horrible words.. "I Told You so! " I hope the child does NOT receive a negative reaction to all that poison entering her body. Hopefully her own immune system will be strong enough to handle all that poison, becomes of her Mom's good sense ..!!!

On the bright side, at least we can see that anti-vaxers are just a bunch of concerned parents.
