Local Authorities Order Anti-Maskers To Dig Graves For COVID-19 Victims In Java, Indonesia

Tons of people are still refusing to wear masks and it’s starting to seem like there’s nothing we can do to prove them wrong. Even scientific facts aren’t able to change these people’s minds. So, what should the authorities do about the situation? How should the individuals violating the rules be punished?

Well, apparently, the local authorities of Java in Indonesia have an idea. Officials in Gresik regency, East Java, came up with a unique way to punish locals for not following the rules. 8 anti-maskers were recently forced to dig graves for COVID-19 victims for refusing to wear masks.

The one who came up with this idea was the head of Cerme district, Suyono. “There are only three available grave diggers at the moment, so I thought I might as well put these people to work for them,” Suyono told Tribun News. “Hopefully this can create a deterrent effect against violations.”

The local authorities came up with a creative way to punish those refusing to wear masks

Those 8 anti-maskers were assigned to dig graves in groups of two, but it wasn’t mandatory for them to participate in the following funeral services.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country is still growing. Yesterday, there were 3,141 new cases registered, taking its total number of cases since the pandemic began up to 221,523. Moreover, from today, Java’s capital Jakarta has been placed under stricter social restrictions in order to control the spread of coronavirus.

Turns out, social, economic, religious, cultural, and academic activities have all been restricted. Only 11 essential sectors including food, construction, and banking are allowed to operate with health protocols and 50 percent of usual staffing. Schools, parks, recreation sites, and wedding reception venues were closed entirely, while restaurants and cafes are limited to takeaway and delivery service.

From September 14, Jakarta has been placed under stricter social restrictions

I'm from Indonesia. This punishment probably seems like effective way to make resident using face mask, but in reality, there's sooo many people surround me that is STILL not wearing a face mask. So sad. (Sorry for my bad english..)

They should also make them work in hospitals doing grunt work such as cleaning beds and fetching and carrying in the COVID-19 wards. Maybe watching others suffer will drive the point home further and provide the much-needed help the hospital staff need. Sure could do with that everywhere around the world.

We're seeing a surge again in Covid-19 as school starts. Anti-maskers should be forced to walk without any PPE through a Covid-19 ward ,cleaning bedpans, sponge-bathing patients, and scrubbing the ick off the floors. IMHO. Medical here, so I have no patience for the "it's a hoax/it's not dangerous" types. FLU is dangerous and it's been with humanity for millennia possibly; Covid's barely had a year. We have no idea where it could go/what it could do. And long-term effects for survivors can be pretty nasty, sooooo..... Yeah. No PPE, and clean the floors with bare hands in a Covid-19 ward. You learn right quick how far a cough travels when there's blood in it and you can see the spatter.

Some have to pay really expensive fines, some do push-ups, and now this punishment? why am I talking about this I'm 11 for God's sake- Have a nice day/night all!

We need that in Spain too... Despite masks being mandatory in public, there are people not following this rule. I see police driving by, looking at people not wearing masks, but they won't stop. It doesn't look like the Spanish government does much to enforce penalties or such.

In the US, big fines might be what's needed, since money is so important to many.

What I wouldnโ€™t give to see Trump forced to help dig the graves of, and attend the funerals of all the victims here in the US. Throw in his kids along with the rabid followers who have endangered and caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Viruses arenโ€™t political, but those in power should be smart enough to realize they arenโ€™t above science and responsibility. *So angry and disgusted!* Get over yourself! This is so much bigger than antiquated political parties and egos! ๐Ÿ˜ก (Itโ€™s unfortunate that blazing ignorance and stupidity arenโ€™t preexisting conditions the virus takes advantage of). I stand by that.

Well, the truth is that most of the time, we infect ourselves by putting our hands or fingers in our face, either eyes, nose, or mouth. I can see a danger in putting mask wearing so much in focus that people forget to religiously CLEAN THEIR HANDS all the time.

Notice that they suddenly started to wear their masksโ€”-to dig graves. Obviously they DO understand about protecting themselves from breathing in germs. If their previous disconnect from that fact has now been reconnected, and they are dutifully wearing their masks everywhere, this just might be a good object lesson to use on our domestic idiots.

What a load of bollocks. We have to wear masks and keep 6 feet away from people. So, if the masks really work, why do we need to keep a 6 foot distance? Because masks do nothing...And that's according to a world renowned virologist. But, hey, what does she know? Some moronic politicians are bound to know more than a woman who has made the study of viruses her life's work!
