Many choosing beggars either want huge discounts for products that their hearts are set on or… they want things completely for free or exposure. Calling these people ‘cheap’ would do a disservice to just how impolite and demanding some of them truly are.
Rudeness and a false sense of entitlement are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to choosing beggars. You see, they think they’re special and that the entire world has to dance to their tune because… well… just because!

A representative of the London-based Freelancer Club explained to me in a previous interview about saying ‘no’ to unpaid work. The organization aims to put a stop to exploitative unpaid work and late payments in the freelance sector.
“We are working hard to change the culture around working for exposure, experience, prestige, and the promise of paid work in the future by educating new and aspiring freelancers. We highlight the impact it has on their career, show them how valuable they are, and work on their self-worth,” the representative told Bored Panda earlier. “On the company side, we show them how paying freelancers fairly is better for their bottom line as well as their long-term reputation. In addition, we are pressuring the government to change legislation that will provide more legal protection for freelancers who are clearly being exploited for their talent.”
Those people and companies that suggest to others that they should work for exposure instead of for money end up showing everyone how they view others and what they think they’re worth.
“Many see freelancers, particularly in the creative sector, as hobbyists and believe they can get away with ‘paying’ in exposure. They leverage their audience size, their brand name, or the allure of gaining recognition. This is why services in exchange for exposure is commonplace in glamourous sectors such as fashion, music, and film,” the rep from the Freelancer Club said.

“From a freelancer point of view, they are often told that working for exposure is a rite of passage or an essential part of building a portfolio by their teachers, college professors, and peers. At Freelancer Club, we take a hardline and suggest freelancers say ‘no.’ The issue is that some ‘freelancers’ are individuals with a passion who will freely give their work away for exposure whilst professionals rely on payment to survive. Lots of men can, but they are usually smart enought not to do so. It just spells constat problems when someone pose such out of scale demands. Having a sense of selfworth is a good thing, but in this case she is clearly overestimating her value by at least a factor of ten. In the end that mistake is going to cost her, unless she gets wiser, since she won't know why she ended up alone and will probably blame everybody else. Being pretty want cut it alone, and you probable need to bring at least as much into relationship as you demand for it to work.

Then my brain automatically told me that this MUST BE a joke meme about entitled people. Good luck with that gold digging (alot of luck is needed if that project is to succeed). I hope you are prepared to spend eternaty alone, because that is probably what is going to happen if she keeps that standard up). In best case she will end up with a rich but really messed up man, because no sane man would ever "buy" what she has to offer. Sometimes I'll call someone to give me a bid on some work (remodeling, landscaping, etc) , and it turns out to be like 4x more expensive than I expected, and there's no way I can afford it. And I actually feel BAD, and sort of embarrassed, for wasting their time. I'm really confused by people who think they have the right to be rude and insulting when someone charges more than they want to pay.

I mean, there’s a middle ground to be had here. Obviously you should be polite when you find out something costs more than you can afford, but self-recrimination over something like that isn’t necessary in order to be a decent person.

my nephew invited me to his wedding (nice), but they scheduled it to be on the beach in Jamaica (too expensive for me).... They must have not been able to find a local hometown church or hall to hire, so now everyone is expected to fly to the Caribbean and spend two grand each (or more) to give them a fitting celebration & send-off. Hmm.... I replied back that my situation at that time couldn't afford this sort of a luxury, but I would like to come to the reception planned back home after their two week honeymoon in Jamaica was over. No invitation to the reception back home was forthcoming, since he was mad that his uncle would not give him this sort of ego fulfillment ... fine, no wedding present was forthcoming from me, I am usually quite generous. He has had nothing to do with me since then. He must not be able to forgive, forget, & move on, even though I did not do anything wrong. Grudges are poison.

the dept. chair at the local jr. college recruited me several times to come to work for him part-time. I said to let me know when a full-time staff position opens up. I told him I did not have the stamina to work a part-time job at night on top of the full-time job I already held. He said it was dept. policy that you have to work part-time (unbenefitted position) to invest enough "dues" to be allowed to bid on a full-time job. I know one guy they worked for seven years as a part-timer before they took him on staff. They gave him a very irregular day & night schedule, not just night classes, so he could not hold a benefitted full-time day job at the same time. So I walked out, nope, don't want to play that way. I understand it has become common in higher education to play this game. They could easily consolidate two part-time teaching positions into one full-time position, but they don't want to pay anything towards benefits and retirement for the teachers. Talk about exploitation! Sometimes educators with doctoral degrees are supposed to hang on like this for years as part-timers in hopes that someone will finally resign, retire, or die. Even then, there is no guarantee that they will get the full-time tenure-track job they have been waiting for.

I have a lawn service. The first opportunity my customers have to be unhappy is when we "agree" on a price. If they are unhappy with my fee, they will be unhappy customers for the entire time I am in their service. In short, don't ask if I can do it for $20 less per month.
