Artist Uses Nature To Color Animal Paper Silhouettes

Nikolai Tolstyh takes photos of paper animal silhouettes in a natural setting. The combination is surprisingly perfect: the surroundings provide both color for the cutout and a scene to frame the animal.

Papercutting as art has been practiced since at least the 6th century in China. However, it was only in the 16th or 17th century that this craft reached Europe. While this may seem recent, don’t forget that paper manufacture only started in Europe in the 10th century!

Exceptionally well done not only with the pairing of nature with animal but in the animal poses too.

Great use of photography and good old fashioned magic with paper and scissors

This is a stroke of genius! It conveys such a strong message about animals and the environment. Such a wonderful technique.

I love how the colour themes kinda match up with the animal, if you know what I mean

The first thing I thought.....this would be a great way to get kids interested in ANIMALS and getting OUTDOORS, what a great classroom project and they could take 'pictures of their pictures', take them home to parents and frame them. I love this idea so much......I AM GOING TO MAKE SOME RIGHT NOW~~and I am 50 years young! It's a great way for those of us that can't create 'realistic art' but are still artistic!!
