I Captured These Animals With My Father’s Old Japanese Film Camera From 1960’s

I grew up in the Italian countryside surrounded by animals and when I discovered my father’s camera in a cupboard (a Japanese 35 mm Miranda from the 60s), I was soon fascinated by it and decided to spend my time photographing dogs, cats, horses and birds I’d come across walking in the nature.

The Animals was my first project and it was published dy Dewi Lewis in 2008. I used my bathroom as darkroom for printing my images.

Old Japanese film camera? You make it sound so archaic. My first cameras were all film cameras as were most people who are over 30. :-)

Brilliant! Good old things like this never lose their value, especially not when in the hands of such a gifted photographer!

I collect antique cameras. There's nothing special about the age of the camera, as the "secret" is the photographer; not the instrument.

I just love old film cameras. My mother used to own one when I was little. I remember running around all around with it.

Very intimate work. Wonderful movement and compositions. Feels like I'm there in the moment with the subjects. Thank you!
