After Years Of Failing To Find My Drawing Style, I’m Finally Proud To Present These Animal Drawings
Hi, I'm Chris, I've been a long-time reader of Bored Panda, and I thought I'd share some of my pencil drawings. Just like most creatives, I've been drawing since I was young, they weren't great, but I was proud of them... Okay, that is not 100% truth. I am embarrassed by some of the pencil sketches that I drew and gave to my friends back in high school (here's hoping that they threw them away ha!), but luckily I've improved. I'm also mostly self-taught. I did have a 1-semester stint at my local college's beginning Art class where I learned quite a lot and tried to hone my skills from then on but to no avail, unfortunately.
Not so much that I started to forget what I've learned rather I didn't have enough clear vision of what I want my art style to be. So I drew and drew and drew - some belong in the dump while some I can proudly say I "drew that!" It wasn't until two years later when I did a Tiger (posted here) and a Quetzal that I started to get an idea of what I want to draw, my style, etc. However, I didn't realize that and still strayed and went on to experiment with other art mediums. Fast forward to 2014, I found my way back, and that has now become my style and continually try to make it better.
The process in creating my art can be as simple as illustrating the entire artwork on a single piece of paper to doing several drawing ideas on separate sheets of paper and bringing them together in Photoshop to create the whole image. I'm inspired by music, shows (anime mostly), nature, or draw whatever my mind decides to come up with, and animals have been the main characters of my art... Partly because I don't know how to draw people (human anatomy is a... well you know haha). Hopefully, one day, I'll be able to include people in my beautiful drawings too.
Whoops, I wasn't intending to write all that but enjoy my animal drawings!

LOVE your creativity. I also LOVE to sketch/draw/paint, but prefer pencil/pen. Your work is wonderful!
Thank you! I've tried other mediums but I always go back to pencil. Hoping to get into watercolor though since I've seen so many beautiful watercolor artworks and I kinda want to create the same thing.

Fantastic. Love The Spirits' Playground. Love them all but that one is my favourite.
Thank you! I couldn't have made that without being inspired by Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke :D.
Load More Replies...this is really creative and amazing. just a sugestion, you could raise the contrast a little bit and everything will pop, the drawing is stunning nonetheless
Awesome pics! Reminds me of the sculptures by Ellen Jewett http://www.ellenjewettsculpture.com/ You definitely have similar styles.
PS make sure you start using watermarks when posting online... otherwise people could steal your hard work!
Load More Replies...Super inspired by your creativity and candid personal story. Remember hon even the greats often took many years to "find their style". I used to feel that way took, impatient with my skills and then I saw a documentary of Van Gogh, talking about how he would spend days, just drawing legs over and over as he tried to overcome the same frustration. You are walking in the footsteps of greatness and your imagination is undeniable. Can't wait to see what you try next xx
