In “Autorretrato Infamiliar”, Brazilian visual artist Dariane Martiól presents a series of photographic records of herself and her mother interacting within the domestic space, enacting a conflicting relationship imposed by social isolation during the covid-19 pandemic.
“In psychoanalysis, Unheimlich (unfamiliar) makes reference to what is familiar, but presents itself in an atypical way, causing a certain discomfort or disquiet.”
Supported by philosophical and psychoanalytic concepts, Martiól moves between the techniques of photography, embroidery and painting, focusing on eroticism and its consequences between bodies, genders and sexualities.
Dariane Martiól has a degree in Philosophy, a Bachelor’s Degree in Painting and is currently a master’s student in Visual Arts. In 2021 she participated in the artistic residency in photography “Mulheres em Residência”, she was awarded by the Festival Photothings and featured in the Efêmero – Festival de Fotografia Experimental.
