Just imagine recreating 10 of the most classic illustrations of rock album covers using all techniques available in today's market, such as Photoshop and 3D. A daring project which took over 18 years to turn from a dream into reality.

I have always been into classic rock and had a band like any teenage rock fan. I soon realized the guitar was not my talent, but the cool artworks on the album covers, which have always fascinated me. I decided to study Graphic Design in Rio de Janeiro to be able to create album cover art.

I ended up working in publicity and became a partner at Platinum FMD, an International Multi Awarded company that specializes in image and video. In its 27 years, Platinum has already won numerous awards, such as 9 Cannes Lions, 5 NY Festival Clios, 5 London Festival Awards, etc. One of its images is, in fact, a part of the permanent archive in the Louvre.

However, I have never given up my dream and managed to create album covers of some national bands in my spare time.

In contact with the most modern techniques of image creation on the market, I increasingly saw more possibilities to make my dream of recreating some famous album covers, which influenced me as an artist come true. Therefore, I decided to get together with some talented partners I have worked with for 20 years as an image professional and finally put the famous artwork recreation project into practice.

That is how the Rock ReCover Project was born. A project dedicated not only to rock fans and the famous musicians themselves, but also art fans in general, who will be able to see the transformation of surreal illustrations into ultra-realistic photography with the interpretation of the biggest names of photography and digital art in the world.

Compare the illustrations and images and pick your favorite one!

Green Day - American Idiot (2004)

Original artist: Chris Bilheimer, Photo: Leonardo Vilela, Luciano Honorato, CGI: Fábio Bispo, Post-production: Flavio Albino
A concept album dubbed a "punk rock opera” by the band members, American Idiot follows the story of Jesus of Suburbia, a lower-middle-class American adolescent anti-hero. Through its plot, the album expresses the disillusionment and dissent of a generation that came of age in a period shaped by tumultuous events such as the Iraq War. American Idiot marked a career comeback for Green Day following a period of decreased success. It charted in 27 countries, peaking at number one in 19, and eventually sold 16 million copies worldwide. The album spawned five successful singles: “American Idiot’, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, “Holiday”, "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and “Jesus of Suburbia". American Idiot was well-received critically and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2005. Its success inspired a Broadway musical and a planned feature film adaptation. It has been praised in the years following its release, appearing on several year-end and decade-end lists.

Love this one, it goes great with the fantasy elements of the bands lyrics at times.

    Jethro Tull - Aqualung (1971)

    Jethro Tull - Aqualung (1971)

Original artist: Burton Silverman, Photo: Daryan Dornelles, Post-production: Flavio Albino
It is the fourth studio album by this British rock band. It is regarded, despite the band's disagreement, as a concept album featuring a central theme of "the distinction between religion and God". The album's "dour musings on faith and religion" have marked it as “one of the most cerebral albums ever to reach millions of rock listeners". Aqualung's success signaled a turning point in the band's career, which went on to become a major radio and touring act. Aqualung has sold more than seven million units worldwide, and is thus Jethro Tull's best-selling album. The album was generally well-received critically and has been included on several music magazine best-of lists. The album spawned two singles, "Hymn 43" and "Locomotive Breath”.
