30 Times People Got More Than They Paid For In Their Airbnb Apartments And Met The Cutest Animals
Sometimes you just want to get away from it all and take a solo vacation - but as social creatures sometimes isolation sounds better in theory. Luckily for the people on this list they had some furry companions to keep them company during their Airbnb stay. These sweet dogs and cats may have been better hosts than their owners were, providing services such as all-night cuddles, slobbery greetings upon arrival, ear licks and standing guard over the property while you enjoyed your holiday. Yes, there is no doubt that all of the people at these listings served up 5 stars for their four-legged hosts - which, as you will see, was well deserved. Scroll down below to see some of the unofficial 'superhosts' on Airbnb and don't forget to upvote your favs!

For those interested in having an animal Airbnb experience of their own, the site offers different routes to ensure an animal experience during your stay. If you want to bring your own animal you can check to see if pets are allowed in the description or make it as one of your search preferences.

If you don't have an animal, but like the people on the list would be welcome to a furry surprise host, you can check the amenities section of the listing to see if there are pets already at the listing. If you see 'Pet Owner' then expect to see another host roaming around at your vacation spot. Just because a host already has a pet does not necessarily mean you can bring your own so always check.

Why are we so drawn to animals and why do they instantly brighten our day? Well unless you're allergic, animals are proven therapy for humans and research has the data to back it up. One example is of the relationship between dogs and humans. Studies have shown that dogs relieve stress.

In a study of college students at the University of British Colombia, therapy dogs were provided to 246 students to pet and cuddle with for drop-in sessions. The results, published in Stress and Health, showed a significant decrease in stress levels, increased happiness, and higher energy after the sessions. Stanley Coren, study co-author and professor emeritus of psychology at UBC said: “We found that, even 10 hours later, students still reported slightly less negative emotion, feeling more supported, and feeling less stressed, compared to students who did not take part in the therapy dog session.”

Benefits from pets don't only apply to dogs, but cats as well. A study was done by Cats Protection in 2011 involved 66 cat and non-cat owning participants, who described themselves as currently having mental health problems. The survey found that 87% of people who owned a cat felt it had a positive impact on their well-being and 76% said they could cope better with everyday life thanks to their feline. A third of respondents described petting their cat as a calming activity.

Cat companions can also have a positive effect on your heart. One study over a 10-year period showed that cat owners are 30 percent less likely to die of a heart attack or a stroke than non-cat owners. This takes into account that cat owners might be more relaxed or stressed people in general.

Part of being a healthier human includes sleep. Multiple studies in the UK have shown that people (particularly women) prefer sleeping with their cats over their partners, and even reported better sleep. In addition to this report, the Mayo Clinic Center for Sleep Medicine revealed that 41% of people in the study indicated they slept better because of their pet and only 21% said it led to disturbances.

While this list only includes cats and dogs, there are some pretty exotic service animals that one may come across. According to the ADA (Americans With Disabilities), a service animal is any animal that provides assistance to a person with a disability. These include: miniature horses, ferrets, boa constrictors, parrots, potbelly pigs, and capuchin monkeys.

Service animals are meant to help their owners with specific tasks, however, emotional support animals are easier to qualify because they don't need to be as highly trained. In order for a person to legally qualify for an emotional support animal: "He/she must be considered emotionally disabled by a licensed mental health professional (therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.), as evidenced by a properly formatted prescription letter."

Not used Air B&B yet - but would be over the moon if they had cat's/dogs. Would be begging to have them bother me.
I don't understand how you rent a room out and then let your animals pester the people that rented it out.. some of these are wicked cute but I don't know how I'd feel about a cat sleeping next to my face all night. Don't hate me!! I have a cat that I love and I think these pics are wicked cute- I'm just a realist lol
All you need to do is let the hosts know you dont want the animal in your room and keep the door shut
Load More Replies...As someone who is literally deathly allergic to cats (asthma attacks and emergency room visits) I hope that the owners advise that they own cats and it's not a surprise 😬
With such a serious allergy you obviously need to check 100% beforehand with every place you plan to visit. Where I am in the UK, Pub owners generally live on the premises and some have pets. My local pub has a cat which is often in the bar. Another has a dog.

I 'fell in' to Air B& B when my ex left as had big house and needed more income. I ended up doing Booking.com and winning an award! It was the best experience of my life! People are amazing, I loved hearing their tales of far off lands. Have a dalmatian and he was a massive hit, though he wasnt allowed in breakfast room or their rooms..one or two did sneak him in...I'd suddently realise he was 'missing'! Most folk wanted to meet him and have their pictures taken with him when they left. I never though I would love having folk in my home as much as I did. Have a much smaller house now, but will be doing it again when the room is ready! x
If I stayed somewhere there was a dog - I most likely would encourage theim in too.
Load More Replies...Not an Airbnb, but my Dad took us camping down the Oregon Coast when we were teenagers. After sleeping in the tent all night, we woke up to this load sound..almost like machinery over towards the water. I asked my Dad what it was and he says in the most nonchalant kind of way..."Oh, that's the sealions on the beach." What? They were louder than a rock concert! Never knew a group of animals could make that much noise!
The ADA only shows dogs and miniature horses as service animals. Not ferrets, boa constrictors, parrots, potbelly pigs, and Capuchin monkeys as the article states. Plus, the link takes you to the wrong place.
My dog barely tolerates guests while I'm there. I don't think she'd make a good host. I'd also be extremely worried about leaving my pet with a stranger.
I was thinking the same thing. My dog is really social, but I'd be wary leaving her with strangers too.
Load More Replies...These are all high quality hosts. 10/10 would visit. Also, to whoever's been putting interesting info between pictures - thank you, I didn't know service boa constrictors were a thing! I wonder how they help, I'm going to go look that up now.
Recall having to take a snake to the vet once - 4ft ratsnake. Was winter and I kept him in my clothing for warmth on the journey. Walking through the town centre and met a friend, chatted for a minute and the snake poked his head out of my shirt collar. Someone spotted him and screamed - then someone else. I just legged it.
Load More Replies...It would be great as long as people are told beforehand about the pets. I know a few people who are so allergic to pets that I don't know what they'd do if they arrived at an Air B&B and found one. They'd be stuck without a place to stay, and probably with limited financial resources to find another place to stay . Especially after a very long trans-oceanic flight.
Haven't used one yet but I would love company! I have a dog and cat of my own!!
I love the idea that a furry friend can keep you company in a strange home. You are incorrect, however, about the "service animal" definition per the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). Beginning on March 15, 2011, only dogs are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA. There is a separate provision within the ADA for miniature horses that have been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Ferrets, boa constrictors, parrots, potbelly pigs, capuchin monkeys, or other animals are absolutely not ADA service animals. Additionally, comfort animals, or emotional support animals, do not qualify for ADA status.

I have not use Airbnb either. But if it has an option for cool animals are there then I'm going to use it.
There's an aop and a site where people offer their living spaces the way a B&B does. I think they probably vary a great deal as far as price, accommodations go.
Load More Replies...I hope owners are letting people know they're leaving their pets behind. Dogs need to be fed and walked. So if people are on vacation will they have time for pet care???
Surely the pets are in homes where the owners actually live in the property. I cant imagine anyone leaving a beloved pet to be cared for by strangers, who may or may not be there most of the time, or who may not actually turn up at all for some reason.
Load More Replies...Totally adorable, but there should be warnings about pets in these things. Some people are scared of dogs/cats and some are allergic. Yes it's cute to wake up next to a random cat but not so cute if it's cuz your eyes are burning
IF you're ever in San Diego and need a room, we have na airstream we airBNB, you'll get the treat of hanging with our three adorable pups!
Two times I have stayed at an AirBnB that there was a cat and once that there was a dog there. All three of those experiences were my favorite AirBnB experiences.
Ok they are the cutest, and it's sweet, actually sweetness overload BUT... what if the guest is allergic to fur and had no prior info about cat/dog resident spreading it all around? Not cute. I would be sick like 24/7 :(
I try to always book air bnb with pets, if available. Last time there was a cat as well - we were told to "just feed her whenever her bowl was empty. Of course we also cleaned her litter box and played with her as we were there for 11 days (without the owner present). She was visibly in a bad state and lonely. She was also an absolute unit, the fattest cat I've ever seen (couldn't even clean herself anymore properly) and I felt so sorry for her. Some owners apparently don't care too much about their animals and use airbnb as cheap pet sitting option (of which there would be better ones - namely housesitters or something similar, this way, they'd know that the guests are there for the pets and know about pet care). Still, I loved every airbnb pet I have encountered! And all were in good shape and had their owners present, except for that one. That poor cat continues to be on my mind and I wonder how she is doing now.
In general the AirBnB will list if there is a cat, dog or other animal in the house or on premise. My friend and I stayed at an AirBnB on Oahu and they had a cat on premise (the cottage was on their live/work farm); my friend is deathly allergic to cats so the host advised that we keep the door closed so the cat didn't come in. Another time, in Cozumel, Mexico (before AirBnB), a cat somehow got into this lovely cottage we were staying in. We didn't realize there was a cat in the cottage until the cat popped up its head from under the covers while my boyfriend and I were having "indoor" fun - we were both highly amused.
Some AirBnB houses are like 25-50 dollars a night! If money is your issue, it can be attainable.
Load More Replies...While I would love to have such cute little hosts and would gladly cuddle with them all, I think it could be risky to leave your little friends to guests at your airbnb. Not everyone is kind to animals, there are bad people out there and sorry to darken this cute article but it could end badly.
I suspect most of these are Airbnbs where the host is still there, i.e. they are just renting out a room not the whole house. People wouldn't just leave their pets like that as they are not going to expect a guest to feed and walk the animal.
Load More Replies...Just my two cents. I think the reason why peoples get relaxes actually because pet doesn't really have negative emotional which makes us relaxe and hardly think that they will reject or betray us so we simply just didn't keep our wall on them. I'd like to build that kind of feeling with human though. Especially with my partner. But to find a partner with the same view isn't easy since human nowadays have trusting issues. We need learn how to live with honesty so trust issues will decrease actually. Also not afraid of being rejected but instead learn how to be better/improve our own self in this life so we won't make the same mistake again and again. It's in our own mindset and our mental. We just afraid of being rejected and that's why we closed our heart so it wont get hurt. Tell me who likes being rejected /unappreciated especially by the one they love the most?
My daughter stayed a few weeks at an Airbnb. Scary growly dog. Not the experience she'd been hoping for. She was a college student, it was with a family, she thought, until they rented the rest of the house to a religious group for a few nights and my daughter felt distinctly unsafe.
I don't understand why people leave their animals with strangers. Pets are meant to take care of on a daily basis. If you're not going to be there, let someone you know stay at your place to watch them. But leaving them in an airbnb... ? You never know if people are allergic or if they are even willing to take good care of your pet.
I was wondering the same thing. Do the owners just rent out a room and stay at home, or do they rent the whole house and leave their pets behind? I don't really understand how Airbnb works.
