The Opposite Of Design Fails: 50 Of The Most Brilliant Design Ideas That People Have Ever Shared In This Online Group (New Pics)
Over the years, we at Bored Panda have released quite a few pieces on subpar design. And while these publications are incredibly fun to prepare and scroll through (just take a look at this one), we need to balance them out a little. After all, not every designer is an incompetent 3-year-old. Some of them are 4... light-years ahead of the competition.
There's a subreddit that features high-quality images of interesting designs, including architectural, graphic, industrial, furniture, and product design, and even though we already covered it once, there are so many gems on it, we need to do a follow-up. From a restaurant half-sunken into the sea to a suitcase that can measure its own weight, continue scrolling and check out the best that human ingenuity has to offer.

We, regular users, usually see just the finished product. But there's so much more that goes into actually creating them. To learn more about design, we contacted Nicole Phillips, who has been working in the design industry since 2005 and has a background in fine arts and advertising. Phillips specializes in logo design, branding, and package design for food & beverage, beauty, health, and interior design clients, and for each project, her work is unique and never linear.
"The design process requires research, experimentation, and even a bit of psychology," Phillips told Bored Panda. "When I feel frustrated with the process, I remind myself to take a step back, have fun and play. It's those moments of play and experimentation that usually create the best results, but it's those hours of research that help build the foundation for the final result."
"My clients are not paying me for my time, they are paying me for my many years of experience, so if I am able to complete the design process in 5 hours rather than 5 weeks, this is a sign of my years of experience and knowledge, this is valuable," she added.

Trying to determine whether or not a particular design is good, many turn to Dieter Rams and his '10 commandments.' According to Rams, good design is innovative, makes a product useful, is aesthetic, makes a product understandable, is unobtrusive, is honest, is long-lasting, is thorough down to the last detail, is environmentally friendly, and involves as little design as possible.
Nicole Phillips agrees with the German design legend.
"Good design includes a good balance of function, form, and fun," Phillips said. "The user shouldn't have to try too hard to get what they need from the design. Good design isn't just aesthetics, it should communicate well and push boundaries a bit. Good design solves problems."

This Bottleneck Is At An Angle For Easy Fill And Drinking
People are doing the best with what they have. If you are able to use them, then good for you. Don't make other people feel bad because they can't. Remember, individual plastic waste makes up a very small percentage compared to that of companies. IF you want to make an impact, go after those companies.
@bryn — Everyone can reuse a plastic bottle more then once! But don’t put them in the freezer, when water freezes it expands and will give off toxins that are present in the plastic which in turn gets into the water you drink and the plastic bottles you buy by the case are very cheap and thin to manufacture, so therefore not to be used in the freezer. They are no BPA FREE!!!!
I always have my shopping bag with me, but since I walk most places it's not always convenient to carry the heavier steel bottle so I have a reusable plastic one as well. I'm not about to haul a heavy bottle around all day while companies and government avoid taking any responsibility. I do my part, often when it's inconvenient as well, but the amount of responsibility put on an individual consumer just pisses me off lately.
I have degenerative disc disease and find it difficult to lug around a heavy glass or metal container. I live in one of Ireland's cities and use public transport. I have to travel as lightly as possible because of my back pain. I don't let it stop me from doing the things I love to do carrying around a heavy water container just isn't feasible for me. Like you, I use a lightweight, reusable plastic bottle. Like you, I do my part. I don't litter and I recycle all plastics that I use (if they're the recyclable kind). I carry my reusable shopping bags, don't litter, and also pick up after my dog.
You mean like glass or aluminium bottles ? I'm not sure about the US but they exist in Europe
Plastic isn't the problem. Single use plastic items are the issue. Well made, non-disposable plastic items don't end up in landfills or the ocean, and far fewer of them are made.
This is a reusable bottle. This keeps people from buying plastic bottles and throwing them away. This is a good thing.
If it's plastic still a no no. Yes glass can cut us as we learned in the 80s but it's 100% recyclable and non poisonous... Companies and convenience have grifted most of the populace. If you're in an area with no potable water? Ie some parts of Africa ... Than sure it's ok... But if it's plastic at all in a first world nations... Nope that's bad on everyone's part and is unnecessary and a rip-off to boot. Since the company spends less than half a penny on a whole truck of spring water...
Just please consider that glass bottles etc. are very hard to use by certain people. I hate to be judged by my sturdy reusable plastic bottle, cutlery etc. I need to use when my muscles decide that they don’t like to participate. Always makes me sad when I see all those superb and easy-to-use-for-some glass containers that I can’t contribute in that way. Luckily there are still other options but when someone has already invested in a sturdy reusable plastic bottle for example, wouldn’t you agree that it is far better to keep using that one (of course only when non-toxic like bpa free and stuff) instead of bying something new, just to present more of a statement, while you’ve chucked a perfectly fine option in the bin to do so?
It is refillable, so replacing dozens if not hundreds of disposables. Not all of us can carry around glass or metal bottles, so plastic is a responsible choice.
Personally I use a metal water bottle most of the time and a throw away plastic cup in public and a Tupperware cup at dinner. My mom uses smart water bottle and reuses them.
I find it really odd people drink and pay for stale year old water(check the laws on selling bottled water... It's gotta sit around and get inspected ... MMM tap water that's fresh... Orrrr tap water that's sat in a bpa nightmare in a rat infested warehouse for a year or more. Everyone in North America who buys any bottled water is being scammed... Period.
Or the house has its own well and the water tastes like fish and rusty pipes

Give it a little time and you will find most of them in the ocean or your nearest dump.
Plastic straws? It's a reusable bottle, so you won't throw it away.
Whoever "designed" this 3D render has no idea how PET bottes are made.
The manufacture is only a small part of the issue. Bottles don't necessarily need to be symmetrical, though it helps. The problem is transportation and storage: Bottles need radial symmetry to be self-supporting. You wouldn't be able to stack cases of these without crushing the necks.
Load More Replies...Easily solvable by fitted intermediate cardboard floors. Think of egg carton like "feet" stabilising on the dome of the bottles.
That might help, but the sideways load experienced by the caps wouldn't change. Egg carton pulp paper wouldn't add significant structural rigidity, but would add significant cost compared to regular bottles which are just shrink-wrapped in quantity and stacked. Packing them sideways in cardstock cases like soda cans would probably be better, but stack-height would still be limited.
You're right!! I looked at these and thought it was a great idea. I then read your post, went and looked at the bottle I use for my dogs and had a 🤯moment.. lol
This is a refillable bottle not a disposable bottle. No stacking required. There is a photo of it being refilled on the fridge.
You still need to stack them at the plant where they make them, and on the delivery trucks in route to retail.
This really bothers me. The bottle is turned the wrong way in the drinking diagram! The person will have to l tilt their head even further back to drink at the same angle as the normal bottle. It’s similar to the angled baby bottles. Please tell me I’m not the only one who noticed this!
Don't need to drink at the same angle, or any angle. Because the spout is located at lowest level of the bottle when it's horizontal, all of the liquid will run out of the spout when the bottle cap is off. Still, I never thought about the stacking problem. You solve a small problem, but gain a much bigger one because you can't stack them.
This is actually not a throw away plastic bottle but rather an acrylic refillable one! So it solves all the issues...and stacking not being one of them! You can tell by that top seam on the bottle. That is where you can unscrew to add ice if wanted, or fill through the top! I can also tell because I have one!! Cool, right? 😎
Yay! No more splashing my face with water or ramming the bottle underneath the dispenser and getting it stuck...
Not really an easy fill and certainly not easiest t drink. Lands Sakes what are the thinking.
this is the future. now all we need is for it not to be plastic so turtles dont die.
Seems nice but Ultimately it's Just another piece of plastic that Will end up in Landfill or the Ocean sadly.
A bigger mouth would b easier to fill, the opening is still too small. Difficult cleaning w small opening also.
Oh great.. I practically break my wrist every time I have to lift a tiny water bottle a few more inches!
I don't know about the easier drinking claim (lifting your head opens up the throat), but the filling one is, hands down, a solid one.
Weirdly that would bug me. I'd always be trying to straighten it out 🤦♀️
Having surgery on my cervical spine soon...this would be awesome during recovery...too bad it's just a concept.
Lol I spill every time I fill my water bottle up, I need this
As someone with severe spinal/neck issues, this is brilliant. I would only buy a refillable/cleanable version though.
The problem with these small mouthed water bottles is that they're not very convenient to clean. (Most) humans are lazy by nature. After they realize what a pain they are to clean, most people will just toss them and then go back to disposable water bottles. Sad, but true. I bought my family water bottles that can be completely disassembled. The top and bottom unscrews, so if you wanted to, you could pop the entire thing in the dishwasher. (I just hand wash them though, as I'm afraid of our names coming off them.)
Your diagram for easy drinking is wrong. It’s supposed to show the bodes at the same angle without needing to tilt your head back to drink.
But when there isn't that much water left, you have to crane your head.
Maybe a reusable aluminum? Then you would have a waste or storage problem.
I get the filling problem, but what does it improve for drinking from it? Not to mention, you can't pour anything into a glass with it.

I second that thought, we get blitzed with too much politics already. I want a break.
Load More Replies...People who complain about being confronted with politics too often are usually the reason why idiots like Trump win elections. Democracy is hard work – not only for those who are elected, but also for those who vote.
So....by your logic, the smart ones are responsible for electing Biden, right?
I'm not American, and I complain (frequently) that your country's politics gunk up the internet for the rest of us. Keep your political schoolyard fights off the GLOBAL internet, please?
I don't like it either but we all have freedom of speech and if it's truly GLOBAL internet as you said, then I'm pretty sure America is part of that and citizens can say what they want. Especially on websites based out of America. There are many ways to avoid seeing things like that if you don't want to.
Yeah but there are much more important political things to talk about than America's s**t like for instance how to help the people in Afghanistan now? And other third world countries where millions of people don't have food or shelter. But then you're too spoiled to think about anyone else's feelings.
I'm Canadian and American politics are bigger than Canadian politics for us. I find some of these hilarious. The author of the article also has their freedom. I feel like as long as we're not actively insulting innocent people or minority groups bored panda can do whatever they want.

Why is the political bias against Trump necessary? He made mistakes yes, but he is all and all a good man and a great president. Besides I see no reason to put politics into this usually amazing website.
I'm getting pretty tired of trolls posting their anti-Trump and anti-conservative crap. Why did jesus supposedly heal some lepers in the stories, but he didn't cure the disease leprosy itself? Some people still suffer with leprosy to this day. Was he incompetent? Evil? Just wants certain people to suffer? Science has largely cured the disease leprosy. Thank scientists! Can you name a disease god has cured? Science has actually cured a number of diseases. Do you have any evidence that any gods even exist? How is jesus god's only son? Aren't we all supposedly created in god's image? Didn't god create Adam and Eve? The bible says pray for anything you want in god's name & god will give it to you. Can you please pray to regrow the limbs of an amputee? Petitionary prayer fails.
