Solid advise. I have called 911 and not done this, but now I will.

My kid is a 911 operator, she has taught me to do just this, if I ever need to call in an emergency say my adress first.

Yup! And please, make certain your situation is an emergency! Use non- emergency phone numbers to police or fire for non-emergency issues or questions

in the netherlands they answer the phone with ""what is the address of the emergency" for this reason

Police have computers that pinpoint your house when you call 911. At least in large cities on up.

Here's a little 911 story. When I was 8 1/2 months pregnant our neighbors house caught fire we weren't sure if everyone was out or not. I was completely freaking out I ran in house to call 911(landlines only)and had to come back outside twice because every time I dialed 911 I only got that weird fast busy signal. Thats when it finally hit me...I was dialing 119🙄😏🥴enjoy the laugh

Can they get an address from a cell phone? I swear, there are very few advantages to cell phones (as phones). No caller ID, 911 can't find you, have to carry it around the house with you wherever you go. (No pockets.) You have to feed it regularly. It's wasteful. My parents had a phone that lasted 40 years, and now all the precious metals in these phones that are thrown out every year are mostly just going to be lost forever, never to be recovered.

911 doesn't ping your location? 112 in the Netherlands does. They don't even need to know your location anymore. (noticed that when I called from my car for big trash on the highway at night. I said the road name and hang on to pass a marker, but she knew exactly)

Don't know about the US, but in the UK if you call 999 from a landline, they know where you are without having to say. Doesn't work with mobiles though, however the emergency services are recommending the use of what three words as they can find you even if you are in the middle of nowhere.

The service itself is stupidly set up because they're not asking for address first. If you try to give them the address first, they often interrupt you.

Called 911 once for a minor car accident for someone else. Thought I would do them a favor. Got the dispatcher, told them the street and they actually said hang up and try again to see if I could get the local dispatch. The one I was on the phone with was 25 miles away in another f*****g city.

If you are choking alone and can’t get help, you need to thrust under your ribcage just like performing the Heimlich on yourself. Using the back edge of a chair often works, the edge of a counter, but it must be under the ribs! trust me, speaking from experience here!

Reminds me of the x-ray shown in a documantary of a young woman with the volume k**b of the car radio in her head after her car crashed. This was in the 1950s.

Also: be a pain in the ass! Kick, scream, yell that you don’t know this person, fight like you’re life depends on it, because once they succeed in getting you secured/to another location, that may very well be it! The key is to prevent them from taking you in the first place, so always look alert and make yourself a “bad target” to acquire!

That has happened to me, but it turned out I accidentally peed in my pants.

When I was about 14, I was on a bus once in a high pickpocketing area and had my money tied around my neck in a little bag that I had tucked under my shirt. I actually felt a dude’s hand creeping under them hem of my shirt and at first I thought he was trying to grope me, but then I remembered the money pouch and realized he was probably trying to rob me instead (or as well as grope me). I alerted one of my friends with a look and then grabbed the guy’s hand before he could go too far, digging my nails into his skin so hard I drew blood as I gave him a look that warned “do it and it’ll only get worse for you.” He immediately dropped his hand back out and fled as soon as the bus stopped, and I kept my money tucked that way the rest of the trip.

Unless the exit is far away, then you die for wasting time.

Same can happen with glass bottles. Bottles are known to start forest fires as well, as people leave their trash behind when camping.

Or you can use salt instead of baking soda as well.

The same for turning off the lights. It can also ignite the gas. Flowing current isn't as dangerous.

This is really bad advice. If someone is in your house, you turn on all lights and make lots of noise to scare them off. If you confront them, chances are you will come off worse as they've a lot to lose.

This is only any use if your car has a panic button on the key fob. If you are that worried about someone breaking into your house, get a proper house alarm with a panic button by your bed. That will work better as it will sound inside the house as well as out.
