Nobody Wanted These 3 Blind Cats, Until This Woman Decided To Adopt Them

Meet big brother Blue and his sisters Meadow and Little Willow, a family of three blind cats that just got adopted by the new head of the family Catherine Magno.

Their story starts just before the Christmas of 2014 when the kittens were found in an abandoned warehouse in Dubai. By then they’d already lost their sight due to a cat flu that was left untreated by their previous owner. After that came a stretch in a foster home. At some point, brother Blue almost got adopted by the previous owner’s neighbor, but the poor confused kitty couldn’t bear living without his sisters and cried all night while searching for them. Soon they were all reunited in the foster home until the fateful night of 19 February 2015, when Catherine took them under her wing.

“I had zero experience having adopted my first ever rescue kitten just a couple of months prior,” Catherine told Bored Panda. “But their story touched my heart so much that I couldn’t bear the thought of them put in a cage at vet facility indefinitely or even worse.”

Catherine was worried about the special needs of her new pet friends: “My perception was that it’s going to not only be challenging but will also require a lot of adjustments on my part,” but apparently it wasn’t that much different. “The only adjustment early on was keeping everything where it was but they are remarkably adaptive.” And as she wonderfully put it: “Blind pets see through their hearts.”

“I was scared because the articles I read about caring for blind pets was overwhelming. My perception was that it’s going to… be challenging”

“But they quickly learned their way around my apartment [and] memorized where every bit of furniture is”

“Except for blind pets lacking vision, they are no different than other cats”

“They each have their own personalities. But equally affectionate and wanting constantly to be by your side”

“With proper introduction, they get along with other cats just as well as sighted cats”

“I wanted to bring awareness that they really are just like any other cats”

“And it’s true what they say about blind pets – they see through their hearts”

That snuggle fest on the bed is so sweet! Only two of the blind siblings shown though. I'm guessing the other is taking the shot. "Hey, guys, I've got the camera set on auto. Now just rustle and make a bit of noise so I can point the lens in the right direction!" ----- Sight is hugely important for humans since it's the major sense we use. But an indoor cat can get along just fine without it since their other senses are more developed than ours and they use them much more. As long as the physical and emotional needs are met, they adapt as well as any sighted cat. Beautiful siblings!!

Some people make this world a better place just by being in it. People who take on a challenge like this have a special place in heaven. A lot of people on this planet could take lessons from these cats.... you don't always need eyes to 'see'.

The saddest part, I think, is that the type of common respiratory infection that causes blindness in cats is so very easy and inexpensive to treat. The cat just needs L-Lysine which is easily obtainable and you can even find it already in powder form, which is very easy to add to cat food. It is appalling and inexcusable that this went untreated in these kitties in the first place. Shame on their original owner.

So glad you recommended this I just finished Homer's Odyssey a couple of weeks ago and really loved it. Homer apparently had a huge following on Facebook during his life, which his owner Gwen Cooper wrote about so eloquently. It's a great story about a fantastic cat. I know Catherine will find that her new kids are not handicapped in any way.

Thank you for showing love to these moggies, my Wife and I have just been adopted by a 14 year old cat that would not stop at it's own home after her owner started adopting ex race track dogs plus her owners other cats used to beat her up, she used to come to our home covered in cuts and hardly any fur on her and covered in fleas plus she is almost blind but she is happy now and has taken over our home, as cats do.

Good for you, Richard! We adopted a neighbor's cat years ago after twice finding her huddled on the windowsill next to our front door in HORRIBLE weather. We found out that he spent a lot of time away from home, and that the kitty (Lizzie) dashed out the minute he opened the door. He was happy to bring her shots up to date and to "transfer ownership" to us. She was about twelve at the time, and once she entered our house she never showed interest in leaving. I used to carry her outside from time to time to let her smell the bushes and things. She would purr happily the whole time, so I think she liked it. She lived another five years until kidney failure killed her, as so often happens with older kitties.

Anyone who thinks having a blind cat is difficult has never had one. We had a cat that was blind from birth, but didn't discover it for several years until the day I rearranged a bedroom. He dashed into the room as usual, jumped up where the bed used to be and slid across the floor into the wall. I mentioned it to the vet during his annual checkup a week later. The vet looked at his eyes and found that there were almost no blood vessels on the retinas, meaning he'd never been able to see. Surprisingly, he was the best mouser I've ever had.

Thank you for adopting these little angels! Pets with a physical disability are just like people with a physical disability -- they just want to love and be loved, to be treated as individuals, and to live life to its fullest. Isn't that exactly like pets and people that don't have a physical disability? We all have limitations of some sort. We can adapt to them and never let them interfere with doing what we'd like to do.

I had a blind cat (R.I.P. Stevie)... and he was the most loving, and out-going cat I ever met. <3
