Part of the beauty of the internet is that it gives rise to concepts and communities that probably wouldn’t exist if the internet wasn’t a thing. And it can get so niche that it would make you wonder very hard as to how it got there in the first place.

One of the more interesting communities online is the r/AccidentalRacism subreddit—a portion of Reddit dedicated to pointing out times when innocent things appear to be racist, though it's totally unintentional and, while some some of it may seem offensive, the community makes it clear that racism is not cool.

We’ve collected some of the most upvoted posts from the subreddit that today has a bit over 450,000 members. Scroll down to check it all out, and why not leave a comment and an upvote on the ones you found most “oof” worthy.

If its a black bear, make yourself seem big and make a lot of noise to scare it away. If it's a brown bear (grizzly), lay down and play dead. It may investigate you, but will probably lose interest. If it's a polar bear, you're going to die.

This is a massive issue with technology that has been developed by white people for white people. When I want to take a picture of my family, my phone generally can't even recognize that there are faces on the screen (they are black). Never mind being able to differentiate between non-white people. There is a lot of work needing to be done by technologists of all nations to get this problem fixed.

As a former teacher, I understand which one of these will massacre a color pencil's softer 'lead'. This is the only segregation I will get behind.

I know a local thai place that has spice ranges from "mild" to "extreme" to "authentic thai"

I ordered a shrimp salad at a Thai restaurant once, nobody warned me that it would be 'authentic'

I used to go to a Thai place that had a 1 to 5 scale on the menu, but if you were Thai you could ask for the hidden level called "Thai hot." I've day I asked about it and was told that if I ordered it, they would say okay and then give me a 5 because they know I can't handke it. TBF, I ordered a 3 regularly and once I tried a 4 and it was way too hot! -- Then there was the Mexican place by my college and I went there with my Indian friend. He asked for "the green sauce" and was handed a bottle from under the counter. Like a hidden sauce that's too hot for white people! So I tried a tiny drop on my finger. I downed my entire soda and then refilled it and drank that too. -- So what I'm saying is that I am not at all offended by the "white" here, in fact, I'm proud that I can handle a step above most people in my race!

Green sauce is typically habanero and delicious (if you can take the heat). Pro tip - if you think you're dying, eat some salt.

English is a poor language for this. "Spicy" can mean too many things. After all, salt is a spice, cinnamon is a spice. Best for this is Spanish..."picante" is the best word. It is not about spice, it is about the effect. It is derived from "picar"....to sting, or to bite.

I have a few Indian friends and hold off on going to Indian restaurants without them cause when I ask for extra spicy and it is just me, they give me mild, but you ask for extra spicy and you with a group of Indians, you get extra spicy. Can't blame the restaurant. My favorite Indian place in town had a negative review by a white person who asked for extra spicy then wrote a scathing review when the food was too hot. Having been there many times and having to reassure the waiter a million times I do mean extra spicy, I know for sure they double checked with that person at least 5 times before giving them extra spicy. Everyone thinks that they have a higher spice tolerance than they actually do. Then they return the food and ruin it for the rest of us.

My daughter works at a Japanese restaurant. When someone asks if something is spicy, they absolutely will say it's white people spicy or it's Asian spicy. It's a different scale for most lol.

When I first stated ordering Thai I asked for it to be baby spiced, like as low as it could go. They gave it to me plain with a little cup of spice on the side. I'm happy to say that now I'm all the way up to Mild spice!

I like food spicy but yeah most of the other white people I know can't handle spice so this is fine. Honestly most of them would appreciate being catered to. There is an Indian place near me with a similar sign asking if you want it white hot or Indian hot.

As someone with a cat's tongue (can't take hot/spicy stuff - even black pepper burns) I need to remember to ask for my dishes "white" spicy. Maybe then I'll be able to eat stuff without crying. 😂

Not really racist to associate unspiced food with white people. Stereotype sure but don't all stereotypes contain a little truth...?
