I have spent almost the last decade traveling around Europe photographing some of its most interesting and visually impressive abandoned locations. From rusting industrial remnants in Belgium, abandoned farmhouses in Iceland to crumbling villas and hospitals in northern Italy, they have all stunned me at the sheer beauty of these places left to rot.

This is part 1 of a series of posts featuring some of my favorite locations.

Who can leave a piano behind? I would like to know the story behind this image, but it may be very sad. For some reason it reminds me of a story I read some weeks ago in the newspaper. A journalist in Madrid lived in a flat and he loved a balcony across the road because it looked like a jungle, full of beautiful plants. One day, a couple of months ago, he saw the plants had died. All of them. He asked some people, and a neighbour told him the story: an elderly couple lived there, and they loved plants. Both died of coronavirus at the beginning of the pandemic. They didnt have anybody else. Their plants died too. It's very sad. They would have loved to know somebody would look after their plants after they died. We all would love to know somebody will "continue" our tasks after we have departed.
