I Spent A Weekend Photographing In Kyoto, Japan And These Are My Favorite Shots (23 Pics)
My name Steve Roe and I am a photographer, street wanderer and neon hunter.
I spent 48 hours in Osaka and Kyoto. I had a lot to cram into this short space of time but it was one of the best weekends for photography I've had in a while.
Here are some of my favorites from my daytime shooting.
If you liked the pictures, I invite you to check out the previous article on Bored Panda featuring the photographs from my neon hunting in cyberpunk cities of Asia by clicking here.

I have been to this shrine. It is beautiful and also has a lot of cats wandering around :)
I am a British expat living in South Korea, I’ve been out here for over 5 years and love living here. I work out here as both a teacher and plus run my own NFT Photography e-Zine called Phrames Collective. I have also had my work published for the front cover of William Gibson’s German Editions of the Neuromancer Trilogy.
Thank you very much! When I look at these pictures, this one in particular, I really have the feeling that I am standing in the middle of it. Nothing extravagant photographed from a distance, just everyday things. Great.
My journey as a photographer started when I was going on a backpacking trip around Asia and wanted to make sure I could have photos from my trip. I didn’t have a very good phone so decided to pick up a basic DSLR camera. On the trip, my work got featured by the BBC which gave me the belief that I was good at photography. I kept up with it and found my style in South Korea’s neon lights, I started going out very frequently on rainy nights to shoot the reflections of the lights on the street.
Kyoto is a very peaceful and calming place. One thing that I love about shooting in Kyoto is that I can spend the day doing street photography in a historical setting and at night catch the train to Osaka to shoot the vibrant neons and nightlife.
The subtle 2-Hues, -Throughout the image, really caught my eye, and made-It look: 'surreal'. -And more like an 'Aizuri-e', [Violet-Blue Japanese wood-block print (Ukiyo-e)].
What I love about photography is that it allows me to be fully present in the moment. Photography really clears your mind and allows you to get rid of all the noise as you focus on your subject. I find it’s such a therapeutic exercise and that’s before the excitement of finding a new location, capturing great moments and being excited to get back and edit.
'Wow'...-a modern-day: 'Ukiyo-e',..glimpse of-the 'floating-world'.
Oh how beautiful! I love autumn pictures showing all the lovely colors of the season.
