Growing up during the 90s was a wild ride. We had elite entertainment like Hey Arnold, All That and Boy Meets World. The music scene was iconic with amazing artists for anyone’s taste. Posters of bands like Nirvana, The Cranberries and the Spice Girls were plastered over bedrooms all across the globe, and computer games like Oregon Trail were just starting to take over kids’ lives.
And while I’m happy to be an adult today, I have to admit that I’d love the chance to transport myself back to 1997 and enjoy one more cotton candy Trix yogurt. If you’re a fellow 90s kid who’s in the mood for a blast of nostalgia, you’ve come to the right place, pandas. We took a trip to the 90sKidz90s Instagram page and gathered some of their best memes below. Enjoy scrolling through, and keep reading to find conversations with Chelsea Woodward and Jillian Diaz Cringle, hosts of the Worked For 90s Kids! podcast, and Kathy Kenzora, host of the History of the 90s podcast!

That wasn’t just from the 90’s - we had them as kids in the 70’s & 80’s, so I suspect kids had them even farther back. But yes, they were great low tech fun.
My husband made my son one of these. You would have thought he died and went to heaven 😂😂!
My husband made my 8 year old son one of these, and he has non stop been playing with it, asking us questions 😂
Had these in school in the 1960s. Didn't know the art form was origami. We used to try and make them very small.
Every generation thinks they invented stuff like this when every generation merely rediscovered stuff like this.
In my mind, the 90s were super recent. But it pains me to admit that this time was actually 25+ years ago, and the world has changed an incredible amount since then. What we call cell phones today would be unrecognizable to people in the 90s, and the internet has had a larger impact on our world than anyone could have ever predicted. Fashion from that time looks retro today, and even the lingo that teens use now wouldn’t make any sense to young people 30 years ago.
But no matter how much time has passed since the 90s, we still remember it like it was yesterday because that period is full of nostalgic memories. That’s why pages like 90sKidz90s on Instagram are such hits. This account, which has amassed an impressive 278k followers since its creation in 2015, can immediately flood visitors with memories from childhood. “From Johnny Tsunami to Britney and Justin’s joutfit, this page is for everyone who still dreams about being on Legends of the Hidden Temple,” the description states.
“YES! YIPPY! I finally won the damn game!” Those were the exact words I would say in my head when I would win 😂!
Sigh. It doesn't matter when these started and it was long before any of us were born (including Boomers and Greatest Gen). READ. It asks whether your BF/GF/etc knows what it is!!! Since these cards haven't been used in school libraries (as shown) or any other for a long time, it's fair game for measuring relative age. All of which ruins the intended humor :(
The point was to put your name on the same card as your crush. (That did not even knew you existed).
An then, once a week, the librarian crossed in a register the type of books borrowed during the week, using the Dewey classification, to do statistics...
Same here! I went to a school where our library, up until about 7-8 years ago, still used these cards. It was always interesting to see who all had checked them out previously! Some of the cards would still have dates from the 90's on them.
Load More Replies...My older sisters in the 50s and me in the 60s and 70s had these in our library and school study books.
Load More Replies...Boo is a slang term of endearment from the early 1980s meaning girlfriend or boyfriend. It likely came from the French beau (significant other)
Load More Replies...Since I was a school and public librarian, for 30 years, I well know what these are. I was quite happy when I was the first computerize a library in Arizona in 1983 and we dispensed with these cards. I had had to type the title and author and call number for each and every book.
To learn more about the wild world of the 1990s, we reached out to Chelsea Woodward and Jillian Diaz Cringle, hosts of the Worked For 90s Kids! podcast. First, we wanted to know what comes to mind for Chelsea and Jillian when they think of this iconic decade.
“When we think of the 90s, we think of the beauty of being bored in an analog world. We were the last generation to not have the world at our fingertips, so we had to create our own,” Chelsea and Jillian shared. “A simple question such as, ‘Who was the main actor in that movie?’ could inspire a long debate amongst friends and maybe even a trip to Blockbuster, an adventure.”
I was about to write the exact same words!! Word for word!
Load More Replies...I don't think I have ever tasted the cookies. However, if you need a button sewn back on, you're in luck.
“Now, instead of tuning into an episode of Pop-Up Video on VH1 to learn random facts about our favorite music and artists, we just pop out our phones and Google, the whole experience surrendered in 60 seconds or less,” Chelsea and Jillian continued.
“We associate so much joy with the 90s. Pop culture had a major boom, the grunge music was amazing, playground equipment was still deadly, the fashion was ridiculous but somehow iconic, and forbidden food items lined the grocery store shelves and our stomachs,” the hosts added.
At my first proper job in a lab our manager made us do this at the end of the day, I think he was in the wrong job
It probably makes it a lot easier for the cleaning crew to dust the floor.

Load More Replies...That sound it makes when you know that the CDs will be stuck 😫😫
Load More Replies...I remember we had one of those cartridge 6-disc CD players back in the day. Smaller profile (relatively speaking), and made a satisfying "kCHUNK" when changing discs!
Oh and that looooooooong dramatic pause when it changed CDs, especially when the noises coming from it made you think it couldn't find disc 4 anywhere on the carousel.
Ok, I still have that CD/DVD changer, but back in my day I shuffled songs with this..... accutrac-4...497f95.jpg
We had a DVD changer when I was in highschool. I don't know why we needed 5 DVDs ready to go at a moments notice, or how we decided which 5 we needed in there, but damn it we could cuz this is America!
We also got in touch with 90s expert and host of the History of the 90s podcast, Kathy Kenzora, to hear what she associates the decade with. “The 1990s was a time when peace seemed possible,” Kathy shared. “The decade began with the reunification of Germany following the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Thirteen months later, the USSR collapsed, and the Cold War was over.”
“In February 1990, Nelson Mandela was released from prison as apartheid ended in South Africa, and four years later, he was elected the country's first Black president,” the host continued. “The Good Friday Agreement ended an era known as The Troubles in Northern Ireland. And peace even seemed possible in the Middle East when Israel and the PLO signed a historic agreement that recognized each other's right to exist and established the Palestinian Authority.”
It still exists. Dolby is just more popular.
Load More Replies...Just looking at it brings back the Jumpscare effect when you heard this come out louder than anything else in the movie
I had a mood ring. When it was blue I was happy. When it was green I was sad. And when I was p*ssed off, it left a red mark on my ex boyfriend's forehead!
I used to change my mood ring colour. It was fun. Didn't change my mood, just concentrated and chose a different colour. Red was the hardest to get without actually getting upset.
I had a mood ring get stolen once. I still don't know how to feel about it.
I learned pretty quickly they were just controlled by temperature and it made them far less exciting
“The 90s were a decade of incredible change,” Kathy added. “When I started working in a newsroom in 1989, we were still using typewriters, teletype machines to get news copy and reel to reel machines to record audio. By 1999, we had computers, the internet and email, and all audio was now digital. In 10 short years, everything completely changed. It was amazing to experience such a massive shift in technology.”
The roundabout, the slide will just burn your a**e, but coming off a roundabout when it is spinning at high speed.....
I still have a huge scar on my ankle from getting my foot stuck under neath while it spinning really fast. Most dangerous by far
Load More Replies...Where are the monkey bars? Those could mangle you in a fall. Screen-Sho...49f1a4.png
The slide. I fell off the steps side of a tall one and caught my groin on the handrail. I was about an inch from an impromptu sex change! Still have the 6 inch long scar.
Agreed! My brother and I also fell off the step side of a tall one. He has a scar across his forehead in his hairline, and mine is in front of my ear.
Load More Replies...I had a friend in elementary school that broke his leg on the merry-go-round. Still went on it the next day with his cast on 😄
Definitely the monkey bars. My elementary school had decorative rocks under them. Incentive not to fall off, but a trip to the nurse's office when you did (guess which one I experienced?).
Some of us actually broke a bone after falling off. Must have been the asphalt underneath it....
Load More Replies...It's a toss-up between the merry-go-round & the slide; the merry-go-round for obvious reasons, but my horse got spooked & ran UNDER the slide knocking my cousin & me out cold! That was probably 37-38 years ago (we were about 10-11yo) & we're both still kickin'!
Those slides would provide 3rd degree burns, friction burns, and wedgies. It could hurt you without outside interference. The only other playground activity that could hurt you easier was the merry-go-round. With the right person spinning it could be absolutely terrifying.
I'm sorry. So did people buy these like this? I always thought they were an art project kids did at school or something.
Load More Replies...If you think that's flammable, check out some 80's hair-dos! LOL! My sisters would go through a case of Aquanet a week!
Load More Replies...I was recently looking into buying myself a hair crimper, after seeing an acquaintance with her hair looking crimped and cute.
Crimping was fun. Everything else is coming back. This should too.

That sounds amazing. Darn you, now I want cheese fries so bad 😂
Load More Replies...Middle school and high school to this day had the best french fries ever!
We were also curious if the podcast hosts enjoyed living in the 90s. “Even though we had very different experiences growing up, one thing we have in common is we absolutely loved growing up in the 90s,” Chelsea and Jillian told Bored Panda. “Whether the world was safer or our parents were delusional, we as kids had so much freedom back then.”
“After school, Chelsea and her friends would hop on their bikes and explore the woods, or ride to get ice cream, creating silly games born of their imagination along the way,” they shared. “Jill was a classic ‘90s latchkey kid, with afternoons spent watching cartoons and MTV with her sisters, or playing in their backyard. Our parents were never completely sure where we were, we just had to be back before dinner.”
True story: the teacher told us to do the first problem so she could explain how addition worked. I did a whole bunch, then when she came to check covered it up with my pencil case, then got busted for working ahead AND trying to hide it. Called me out in front of the whole class. So yeah, I learned anxiety in school.
I rejected these all too well. My math teacher would time us in how fast we knew the answers. And I’m not kidding when I say, she would have her stop watch in her hands walking around the class room. Then she would stop at a random desk, put the stop watch in the student’s face and tell them that they were too slow! She was mean😂!
Yes! And, does anyone have kids today? I swear they make crayons so much better than I remember from my youth. The white really colors white on dark paper. The neons are so bright. The glitter and shimmery ones!! Idk how they improved the concept of crayons but they did.
Ah yes, but do they taste the same or better?
Load More Replies...They had these back in the 60's and 70's but the box design was different and the sharpener was on the end of the box. Maybe even before the 60's.
I thought I remembered it there as well. We never got them as kids, they cost too much.
Load More Replies...I have my own. I seperate them by color then secondary and then tertiary. All very stressful. 🤪 I have coloring book and crayons on my coffee table as we "speak"
Kids don't really color with crayons these days do they? Don't they just have some paint by number type app on their phone or tablet, and touch all the areas with a certain number for a certain color?
Kids still have this. I worked last year in an elementary school and ALL the lower grades used crayons, in fact some projects required it. Those students who did not have crayons could have a new box of 12 from the teacher's private stash that they kept for the low income kids.
Load More Replies...Even decades earlier, it seems....but I'm old....Maybe I am remembering wrong....
Not one of them tasted anything like chicken soup.
My mum had so many of these books and didn't understand why I didn't want to read them.
Kathy also added that she misses the “appointment TV” of the 90s. “There was nothing like going to work or wherever and talking with everyone about an episode of your favorite show (i.e. Seinfeld) that aired the night before,” she shared. “We experienced more things collectively in the 90s. Today, our viewing habits are so fragmented that it's rare to have those kinds of experiences.”
I had one. It came out in the 80s, which means it was still around in the 90s. I used it through the early 2000s.
Load More Replies...The me this is 1970s. You need a teasmade as well for the full experience.

Still got this one in the guest bedroom. (Our guests are all old enough to know how to use it.)
Mine still works!... except for a little wear and tear, the radio tuner isn't perfect and the buzz alarm isn't reliable, but I can rely on the radio alarm to wake me up everyday.
I still have mine that I received for Christmas in 1983 (16 years old - January 3rd). The radio no longer works, but the time display still works.
The one that was built where I'm from, like 20 odd years ago, they're going to tear it down for a plastic mess. Sad!
There is still one in my town. They seem to have lasted better than the terrible plastic ones.
Using up all my dad's tea bags trying to get the shade of the paper right...
I was out of school in the 90s because I never did that for any of my papers. or whatever, for school.
I graduated high school in 98 and have never turned in a history paper that looked like this… Honestly, was this for remedial classes or something?
Load More Replies...I did this once, and I actually burned my history report up. I couldn’t print out another copy, because it had to be handwritten🤦🏻♀️
However, Kathy noted that she does not miss all of the TV shows from the 90s. “I was not a fan of shows like Jerry Springer and Jenny Jones which were all the rage in the 90s,” she shared. “It felt icky to watch people who were often at their lowest point in life. Especially now that we know a lot of times those people were plied with alcohol before coming on the show, so that they would open up more.”
My pastor opened his sermon using these as an illustration yesterday! There’s nothing like being a 90s kid, is there? 😆
Dude, this is the Stussy symbol. It's a skateboard brand, and kids are totally into it again. --6th grade teacher
Dude I assumed so too, but learned that the S far predated Stüssy! "No, this is not an original Stussy Logo," stated Emmy Coates, who has worked alongside Shawn Stussy since 1985. "I personally get asked this a lot, but people have been drawing this 'S' long before Stussy was established.” Recalls legendary skateboarder Stacy Peralta: “We used to draw that in grammar school all over our notebooks, as early as the fourth grade, which would have been 1964 or ’65.” Mid 1960s!? Pogs, thanks for the nostalgia BP. I remember having what I thought was one of the coolest slammers, it was heavy, but had a purple grippy side that smelled like grape. Ahh, to be a kid again...
I had one that looked like a saw blade, had an evil looking face on it and was made of heavy solid metal. I was in my 30’s. I didn’t play pogs, it was just so flippin’ cool. I don’t know when it went missing from the memory box…

Man or not, I am pretty sure that "dweeby" kid has probably grown up to own an IT startup and is currently dating a model, while you are still trying to act cool by putting down someone's interests that don't line up with your manliness. At least that is the story I played in my head.
Load More Replies...Chelsea and Jillian also shared what they don’t miss from the 90s. “Like every furthering decade, we as a society need to continue to learn better and do better,” they told Bored Panda. “The 90s started in the midst of the HIV/AIDS crisis, and the negativity surrounding the LGBTQ+ community was painful.”
“Same sex marriage wasn’t even recognized! Diet culture was just starting its ‘thin is in’ movement, and body positivity was not a notion that would come around for years,” they added. “Sexual harassment in the workplace was tolerated, and girls were told ‘boys will be boys.’ These are just a few things we are glad have started to change since the 90s.”
Lolo ball! I loved these. The game, how many bounces you could do without stopping...Great fun!
The very best thing of all, there's a counter on the ball~. Yes, I so still remember the whole Skip It commercial lol
I 100% had 5 of these! In these exact colors. I was not coordinated or had good enough balance for half of these though. I had what my mom called “summer knees” which simply meant since I was falling down getting scrapped up without long pants to protect my knees there were several months of the year where I was constantly bleeding or scabbed. Somehow calling them summer knees made me feel proud.
We used Tate and Lyle syrup can upside down with string through them for stilts.
I loved my Skip it. and the velcro catch pads, but I can't remember if they had a specific name. did anyone ever do the human version, where you wore a sort of velcro suit and would launch yourself from a springboard onto an inflatable wall. that was a lot of fun.
I miss playing with guns. And not the super shakers. The close and up battle of wits. 😆😆😆😆
It's one of those weird perennial media tropes, pairing two singers or bands as though they're rivals.
What the following hullabaloo exposed about the general public - or at least those who got their knickers in a twist about it - was even more cringy tho. So I think you have to see it as a product of its time. Admittedly we also had no idea how fücked up Britney probably already was back then.

Balls like that used to have a hoop handle, but apparetly too many children were injured by spinning around and smacking them into each other.
Load More Replies...If you’re interested in delving into 90s culture yourself, Kathy recommends starting with music and films. “For example, if you want to immerse yourself in the Seattle grunge scene, listen to some Nirvana and then watch the movie Singles. Also, the movie Reality Bites is a pretty good snapshot of what it was like to be in your 20s in the 90s. The soundtrack is pretty great too.”

Replace the rainbow hair with short and spikey, the piercings with actual safety pin earrings, and make the pants a tad quieter but still angry, and that would be me in the '70s and part of the '80s.
Omg I went to highschool from 1994 to 1999 and dyeing my hair in outrageous colors was occupied all least 25% of my time.. we had punky color.. lol. Just had to go to Zummies.. reference the inside cover of Nirvanas nevermind album he's got hot pink hair with purple stripes.. btw I'm 44 now and still have blue hair. And gauges. Lol

Familiarize yourself with the current events of the time, such as the OJ trial, the Y2K melt down, and the Bill Clinton impeachment.”
“Look for old episodes of Pop-Up Video, Daria, and Total Request Live online,” the hosts added. “Fashion wise - you can’t go wrong with a bucket hat, and Starter Jackets were all the rage." And you can always tune in to Worked for ‘90s Kids! on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or Google Podcasts!

I'm going to say 2002. Also, theater girl was not an actor. She was tech crew. Probably stage manager. Definitely not speaking as a former "weird theater girl"....
Again, this is 2000s, not 90s, even says 2007. Why is this in the 90s memes 😭 there's so many 90s specific posts you could make and only like half at most are 90s related.

I had colored "juice" in those little plastic barrel shaped containers. Purple drink, red drink, etc etc 😄
Had this, never used it. I wasn't allowed to without adult supervision, dad refused because it was a 'girl' thing, mom was always too busy. Then my dad took it because I didn't clean my room fast enough for him and threw it in the attic, it's probably still up there.
My mum would only let us take store-bought things for playlunch (recess) once a week (and we didn't have most of these brands). I usually chose roll-ups.
Growing up in Ireland and the UK, I need to know a) What is a Slim Jim? And b) What's a Wonder Ball, and where can I get one?
As best as I can tell from research (aka Wikipedia), the chocolate Wonder Ball was first released as the Nestlé Magic Ball (mid-'90s) and was similar to Kinder Surprise with small figurines of Disney characters inside. The ad slogan was "What's in the Wonder Ball?" It was withdrawn in 1997 as a possible choking hazard and reborn in 2000 with candies in place of the toy. The one pictured would be from their 2016 line of dinosaurs under the Frankford company (Disney sold the brand in 2004).

D Tent Boys singing Dig It will now be running through my head all day now, thank you.
I loved livejournal sooooo much!! Made some great friends there and it was just overall such a positive and social site. Tried it again about 10 years ago but it was too much Russian and almost nobody wrote in English anymore. So... now I just miss that site. A whole lot, actually.
I didn’t know these existed in colors other than orange. And I distinctly remember them having Fred or Barney from the Flinstones on them
That's interesting, we have push-ups in Australia, but they are lollypops.
Cell phones weren't a thing in high school in the 90's. But I had an awesome Mt Dew pager!

It would probably still have 34% battery too!

Clarissa Explains It All! The one time during the week I had dibs on the tv.
I'm in my 50's and in charge of buying supplies for our office and that is the brand I buy.
Load More Replies...We didn't have Ticonderoga in Australia as far as I remember. We used paper mate at my house usually, but I can't remember other brands off the top of my head.
I had a similar one, but I HAD to take the bus once my siblings started school and mum had to drive them. I got one year of rides, then was back to wishing I was invisible getting on the bus every day.
Or he flicked them out the window and littered like mine did.
Load More Replies...I have seen this in the op shop (thrift store) a bit but never used it as a kid.
Opposite for me, usually still is. Dad hates the heat! Mind you for a long time after my parents split up he didn't have an air con.
this doesn't look at all familiar, but I remember the little dolls. quints. quints. five times the fun. I love taking care of every one. then, rather disturbingly the song went. I love you, and you, and you and you. what did the other baby do not to be loved?!
Maybe the 5th one was the one singing?
Load More Replies...The ultra-low rise pants can be forgiven, it was 2003. Nobody knew how stupid they looked.
I had jeans in the 70s that were quite a bit lower than those.
Load More Replies...Did the people who wore those WWJD bracelets ever stop and think about what Jesus would actually do or did they just do what they wanted and rationalize it?
1080 snow boarding and Jet Set Radio (what it was called when I bought it), were on another level!
It was a quack product that was even marketed by some famous athletes. It's a thing that promises to give you more balance. There were many of those products, also claiming to "channel energy" better, and whatnot.
Load More Replies...These are called Power Balance bracelets. They said it had some special technology that allowed the wearer to be balanced at all times.
I had an accessory for my old MP3 player. Plug one end into the player and the other end went it to the tape deck. It was basically a fake cassette with a wire that let me play MP3s using the car speakers
I had the same thing but i used it with my portable cd player
Load More Replies...There were always kids who refused to run when the gym class was running. This meme is saying the girls who did this wore these clothes, had braces, dyed hair, etc.
Load More Replies...Do they mean your home or a holiday house? Also, my mum always made us go outside to play, rather than stay in and watch tv etc.
Yep, really hated holidays, because we never went anywhere. I was the kind of kid that loved to study, so usually I made up my own projects during the holidays.
This list should be titled "Millennial Nostalgia" There are things here from the 80's, 90's and 00's, as well as things that are just 'kid' things that still apply to kids now.
as someone that was born in 2003, I grew up with a good 3/4 of these. it always ticks me off a little when I see these things gatekept for only the millennials or the 90's kids to feel nostalgic over because it's kinda just denying my childhood in a way.
Load More Replies...Because if you were a "90s kid" you were a tween in the 2000s.
Load More Replies...To all commentors: No, this list is not entirely accurate, and no, we 90s babies are not attempting to gatekeep nostalgia. For we are now of the age our predecessors were when they also looked back and dreamt of days more innocent and cringe, and we felt the same as you do now. Give it some time, your turn will come. You may not see it, but the documentation for it could not have existed during our time, as the internet was also just being hatched from its little nest and learning to fly. You will understand, be it 10 or 20 years from now. Twas not long ago I saw Gen X as my enemy. Then, they became 'okay.' Then they became "not unlike myself." Time is a funny thing. *pats Gen Z and Alpha heads*
Yeah, many of these are simply not 90s. Yes on the eyebrows, myspace, and the CD changer but that's about it.
I was born in 2000 and can relate to nearly all of these. 90s kids always think they've got a stranglehold on nostalgia when really it transcends generations.
Ooooh just you wait. The 80s kids did to us what we're doing to ya'll. Your turn to repeat the favor for the next generation will come. It is a rite of passage, dear youngling.
Load More Replies...At least when they are older, people could have experienced them in the 90s. But many of them are newer.
