... I would like to know - How did these artists know how to draw / paint Monsters & the like? There must have been some LSD around.

In the MA people where often unintentionally high on ergot, of which LSD originally got extracted. A poisonous fungi that grows on wheat.

Good question! I don't think there was LSD but most people drank beer/wine all the time and lead poisoning (from paint) could be a factor

I live in Autun (France) ! What a surprise to see our cathedral amongst other pieces of art !

I studied Art History in Boston, USA but concentrated on the Romanesque. And I have a fondness for your Gislebertus--he is my hero!
