Quarantine boredom has been inspiring people to find new ways to have fun and stay connected while trapped indoors. And, using all our ingenuity, I have complied 7 ways to fight off lockdown boredom without endangering my health or the health of others.

1.Virtual Hikes

With borders closing and travel bans being imposed all over the world, it looks like we’re all missing out on our holiday trips this year. But I don’t despair, I can still go on virtual hiking trips to my favourite outdoor locations and what’s more, it’ll be the easiest hike I’ve ever done!

2. Streamed Concerts

With this year’s festival circuit scrapped due to the health implications of large groups of people being very close together for extended periods of time, we all have to look elsewhere for our live music fix. Luckily, artists are responding to the situation by live streaming performances.

There are plenty more live performances planned and I can catch past performances on Instagram and Youtube.

3. Live Video Escape Rooms

Escape rooms all over the world are responding to the lockdown by launching new online escape rooms that can be played from home. Teams of friends are sitting in their pyjamas using a live video feed to direct a real person around an actual escape room. We spoke to Logic Locks (https://www.logiclocks.com) in Amsterdam and asked them to explain the new escape room concept:

“Live video escape rooms allow friends to experience an adventure together without ever leaving the house. Using conference call technology, players can work together to solve clues and help their host escape.”

4. Indoor Sports: Fishing, Badminton, and Ring Toss

In China, where the coronavirus outbreak originated, people took to fishing in indoor fish tanks, and playing badminton and ring toss to stave off lockdown boredom. Indoor Olympics, anyone?

5. Learning Welsh

One plucky contributor to Welsh newspaper, The Mercury, suggested we should all spend our summer in lockdown learning Welsh…Well, it’s one option…

6. Photoshopping Pets into Travel Pictures

As we recently reported https://www.boredpanda.com/dogs-around-the-world-photoshop-bellareedphotography/,

some people have been using their spare time to photoshop their pets into travel photos. But hey, why stop there! Why not also photoshop my pets into pictures of celebrities, concerts, or even into screenshots of people playing one of those online escape rooms. The possibilities are endless.

7. Shaving

Both men and women have been busy shaving their heads during the lockdown. For some it appears to be an act of desperation brought on by the closure of barbers and hairdressers, while for others, well, perhaps they just wanted to find out what their scalp looked like…

Celebrities who have taken up the craze include Beckham, Riz Ahmed, and Cody Simpson.
