Many airlines allow pets to fly in the cargo hold (where the atmosphere is unpressurized and the temperature is often unregulated) or in a container in the cabin, but some made headlines after they took animals on board with the rest of the passengers. To be able to travel with your pet like that, it usually has to qualify as an emotional support or service animal, but if it does, even out-of-the-ordinary flyers are welcome. Bored Panda has compiled a list of surprising photos, capturing even more surprising passengers on flights, and it might just cure your aviophobia.
From a service dog riding on its master's lap to a flock of 80 hawks, these creatures enjoyed the cabin just like the rest, and it was totally flytastic. Let us know in the comments if you'd be OK with flying next to these animals and upvote your favorite pics below!

"Do not pet". It's pity they had to write this sign on the dog's collar. Nowadays everyone pet domestic dogs on the street without considering the fact they might hate strangers/have tendency to bite/have to do their job (I vividly remember my fellow classmates back in 4th grade who had the downright stupidity to pet and distract a blind guide labrador). I have some old books on dog care and all the authors wrote clearly: "Never pet a dog you don't know without the permission of the owner. You don't know how it might respond". Honestly, what's wrong with today's society? And then they write about those bite accidents with "dangerous domestic dogs".

I run into this ALL THE TIME because my medical alert dog is tiny and cute. ALWAYS ASK TO PET DOGS, NO MATTER WHAT!! I CAN let go a 15 minute rant, but I'll save everyone the bother. It just bugs me.

K-9 bomb dog is a specifically trained working dog, not socialized like a pet except with his handlers/family). The message on his collar is a safety precaution for everyone. This dog gets tons of love and affection from those he trusts - his partner, et al.

Personal service dogs often have similar warnings on their jackets. They're on the clock, too and need to stay focused on their person/job. It's so hard to not pet, I know!

You're very quick to be indignant! What do you know about why these animals were on a plane? Do you know who was taking care of them? Do you know anything at all apart from your knee-jerk reaction? Why do you think it's being treated like a toy - have you never shown an animal affection?? Get off your high horse and find out your facts before being judgemental. The plane was being used to transport Cheetahs and Penguins (that were allowed to walk freely in the plane) from Columbus Zoo for a National Science Convention in San Francisco - I suspect that the people taking care of them know a lot more about how to treat animals than you do - unless you're a highly qualified and experienced zoologist?

To all the angry / sad / its a wild animal comments - cheetahs are actually quite safe as pets, much more so than the other big cats. They have been kept as pets and hunting animals for literally thousands of years, and this one was probably rescued. So.. research before you react, please!! (people just wanna rage methinks)

Happy that evacuations are learning that people often will choose to stay and chance their luck rather than leaving a beloved pet to try and survive on its own and are actually evacuating pets often now.

Actually, in this situation the wind took over and shifted the fires extremely quick. Went from clear skies to evacuation within about an hour or so. Most people who evacuated without their animals, was not by personal choice. They were either at work, fleeing, or forced out. Source: I’m a Fort McMurray evacuee.

Some airlines only let you bring a dog in the cabin if they stay in their carrying case. Having an animal in a carrier isn't cruel it would be much more traumatic for the pup if it was alone under the plane and had no idea where it's human was. Think before saying something is cruel

Cute, unless you're allergic. My husband would have an asthma attack sat next to one of these dogs (or sitting in the same seat on the flight after) and would come up in hives if licked. Perhaps a designated area would be best to help contain the allergens.

I am very sad to see pictures of exotic creatures and wild animales being carried around like it's no big deal. They must be suffering a lot of stress a (a Koala, a baby cheeta , really?) and probably are part of illegal trade. Such a pity that they get to look 'funny' on this posts with so many great pics of company animals.

I hear you, but if they're rescues/orphaned/abandoned doubt to the only sanctuary with space/resources requires flight, then I'm all for it. Not sure either wild animal should be out of a carrier, though. Apparently having them loose was okay with the airline. Adorable animals, but I'm not sure they can or should be domesticated.

I once brought a rescue cat with me, from vacation. I had to keep her in the box, on the floor, it was Lufthansa airline - but what can you do. She survived, and I was happy they accepted her on a plane anyway (it all turned out a bit spontaneous). But honestly, I would really love it if there was a pet of any kind in a seat next to me, any time.

Yeah, it's really a shame and really hard for me to understand why pets aren't allowed at all here even in buses or the subway. There's plenty of them that are so much more well behaved than so many children or even grown a*s people.

I hear you, but if they're rescues/orphaned/abandoned doubt to the only sanctuary with space/resources requires flight, then I'm all for it. Not sure either wild animal should be out of a carrier, though. Apparently having them loose was okay with the airline. Adorable animals, but I'm not sure they can or should be domesticated.

A lot of animals that are being fostered and adopted out are flown all across the globe! I think it's amazing esp if they get a chance at a new home!

I once brought a rescue cat with me, from vacation. I had to keep her in the box, on the floor, it was Lufthansa airline - but what can you do. She survived, and I was happy they accepted her on a plane anyway (it all turned out a bit spontaneous). But honestly, I would really love it if there was a pet of any kind in a seat next to me, any time.

It's really cool that animals can fly too! And they are mostly well behaved :) If you happen to run into a penguin it must be a flight experience of a lifetime :D

Yeah, it's really a shame and really hard for me to understand why pets aren't allowed at all here even in buses or the subway. There's plenty of them that are so much more well behaved than so many children or even grown a*s people.
