Meat production is known to have a negative impact on the environment and the best way to reduce it is to stop consuming animal meat. However, it’s easier said than done, especially for those who can’t live without having a juicy steak or a burger once in a while. That’s why, over the years, the alternative meat market has started booming. With many new technologies invented in an attempt to produce a plant-based meat that tastes just as good as the real thing, people are shifting their preferences for environmentally friendly food.

Recently, one such new technology has intrigued alternative meat lovers. A startup called Redefine Meat introduced its brand new ploy to create 3D-printed meat! The Israel-based startup is planning on launching its new product, Alt-Steak, next year.

The company decided to do something that hasn’t been done before—3d-print vegan meat to mimic the texture, appearance, and flavor of real steaks.

Alt-steaks are designed to perfectly mimic the muscle structure of beef. After working closely with “meat experts” such as chefs, food technologists, and butchers, Redefine Meat digitally mapped more than 70 different sensory factors to create that juicy, tasty steak.

The steaks are made out of soy and pea proteins, coconut fat and sunflower oil, natural colors, and flavors. Being plant-based, they are healthier than the real ones as they don’t have cholesterol and are high in protein.
The beef cuts are soon to be tested in high-end restaurants in Israel and hopefully, they will be available for broader distribution next year.

Why do these vegan companies keep trying to make 'plant steak' - look, it's not steak. Just make some plant based food that tastes good and we'll eat it. Stop trying to call it "steak" that just brings on an unfavorable comparison.

Because there are lots of people who like the taste of meat, but hate the thought of killing animals for food. If technology allows those people to have it both ways, who are you to complain?

This is meant for meat eaters, to convince them to not eat meat. Not for vegans. Vegans already eat vegan, they don’t really need fake meat, although some might like it. Meat eaters need fake meat. Personally, I prefer real meat, this doesn’t look good and I doubt it tastes anything like meat.
