Here’s A Recap Of 2020 So Far And It’s Painful To Read

2020 has been full of surprises that no one, not a single one, has ever asked for.

First, the bushfires raging across Australia, burning 18.6M hectares and killing 1B animals. Then, the US drone hit Baghdad International Airport and took down Iranian major general. With war breathing over the shoulder, and racial tensions over police brutality reaching a boiling point, we still gotta deal with the worst pandemic in recent history that killed 693 805 people so far.

At this point, I pass the relay to this summary of the first half of 2020 made by someone who made everyone a public service and laid it all out. And if simply scrolling through it, will feel like an eternal torture, it’s because it is. ‘Cause no need to lie, it’s been rough. Like, borderline, I’m outta here, is there still a room for one at SpaceX, please?

Bored Panda reached out to Imgur user skeeli614, who shared this viral summary of the year 2020. The post has been upvoted 5,692 times on the platform, and skeeli614 said he was super glad so many people enjoyed the post. “I was actually just browsing through Facebook and came across the post and thought the people of Imgur might find it as humorous as I did.” The original author of the meme has not yet been identified.

Meanwhile, the guy said that “In the 30 years I’ve been alive, I have to say it’s my least favorite year.” He also hopes we can expect a little more “humility, civility, and unity from the world.”

This summary is part of the “But I Got the Van” meme that stems from a quote uttered by Luis in the 2015 Marvel superhero film Ant-Man. Initially, the meme is thought to have first originated 4 months ago with a multi-panel image macro comprised of screenshots of Luis reciting the dialogue.

According to Know Your Meme, this image has been used in a series of jokes about optimism in the face of intense adversity.

From what we’ve seen so far, this year has been particularly rich in the comedy department. With so many memes, jokes, and puns surfing around the internet, 2020 has been hosting a tragi(comedy) club in its own right.

In a previous interview with Bored Panda, the comedy writer Ariane Sherine has said that 2020 will stick around. “2016 was also a bad year and people still talk about it. But it [2020] will slowly fade from memory and be mentioned less and less.”

Meanwhile, social media users are joking about how we’re still not even halfway through the year and there are tons of messed up things waiting for us in the near future. From zombie plagues to alien invasions, if we’ve gotten through this mess so far, we’re gonna survive whatever comes next as well.
