Trends come and go like seasons change, and while some trends today are hated, ridiculed, and shoved into the deepest and darkest corner of history, others manage to win us over and evoke a sense of nostalgia when we come across them once more. There are also those cool things that explode and go huge, spreading across the globe like wildfire and everyone, including your grandma, knows about it. And then they seemingly jump off the planet and disappear into oblivion. No one even remembers they happened.
Since the decade of 2010s, we had quite a handful of fads like that, and despite being either loved or hated, no one seems to remember or talk about them anymore (except maybe for that one kid who refuses to let go of his fidget spinner collection).
Bored Panda has collected a blast from the past - some of the best trends that were huge in the last decade and then suddenly completely died off like a pretty butterfly. But hey, that’s the internet, right? Oh, and don’t forget to tell us about your favorite (or most hated) trend in the comment section!

For example, planking, like many other weird things that became trendy, pushed people to take something very simple and make it as unusual as possible. As the trend gained traction, many "plankers" found more and more ridiculous places to place themselves, like in the luggage area of a plane or on top of a McDonald's sign.

Many of the popular trends from the 2010s involved games. With the rise of mobile apps such games like Fruit Ninja and Flappy Bird quickly garnered enormous attention and while those were eventually forgotten, some of the apps still have remaining user bases. The explosion of Pokemon Go in 2016 resulted in a previously unprecedented phenomenon where millions of people went outside to play the game. And although the original hype died down, the game is still relatively popular despite the general public's absence of interest.

This insanity wasn't even the original Harlem shake...the original dance actually took coordination and rhythm

I think that has to do something with "Movember". From wikipedia: Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movember

We getting throwbacks already... kinda sad that this decade is almost over
I didn't get a lot of these, and honestly don't feel like I missed much.
How the &*%!# did the Panama Papers get on this list??? Uncovering corruption is not a mindless fad and the legal consequences are very, very real, and continuing. "Twenty-three countries have already recovered at least US$1.2 billion in taxes, heads of government implicated in corruption or tax avoidance have resigned or faced prosecution and there have been investigations in at least 82 countries. Mossack Fonseca, the law firm at the centre of the story, has shut down and the Panama Papers have prompted high-level political debates and expedited policy reforms around the world." This from Apr 4, 2019. https://www.transparency.org/news/feature/three_years_after_the_panama_papers_progress_on_horizon
Panama Papers is the sad and sinister part of this list. It shows (as if we didn't know already) that if you're rich/powerful, you can do whatever you want... What should have been a start of a gigantic scandal and criminal investigation now is just something almost everyone forgot...
This is NOT true. That the Panama Papers no longer are frontpage news does NOT mean that nothing gets done. I find this kind of defeatism appalling. At least Google it before you decide that you know the outcome.
Load More Replies...at the beginning of the article everything made sense and i was all like: " ohhh yeahhh i remember that now'' then it went to random things i didn't even know existed
Every comment I’ve started writing has caused the page to reload. Except this one, of course.
My additions: Fidget cubes, Unicorns, Heelys, Lokai bracelets (there was always that one kid who would come in with $200 worth of these on his wrist)
Hey, nothing lasts forever. Some of those things were pretty cool, others not so much. If there is something you like don't do it or not do it because it's trendy.
Godamn how old are you? Seven???
Load More Replies...Yeah, because it said the 2010s - plural... meaning anything from 2010 to 2019.
