20 Years In The Making! Redrawing My Childhood Monsters!

When I was about 11 or 12, myself and 2 friends made a wildly derivative Top Trumps/Pokemon card game called (for some reason) Rakafikimon.

I found the cards last year and decided, as an illustration exercise, to work up each character into a fully illustrated design and maybe make myself a whole new pack of Rakafikimon.

The original plan was to spend no longer than an hour on the new designs, although some of them ended up taking a lot longer as I got really into them.

The originals were illustrated in Microsoft Paint – the new ones are Photoshop paintings.

Very imaginative and excellent recreations of the original. Do I detect some inspiration from Pokemon in some of these? Very well done :)

It may have taken 20 years to illustrate just how scary those monster were. Where's Sully when you need him? When a kid says that he saw a monster, the cute little innocent looking monsters his parents see are not the monsters he sees. A job well done. I'll bet the night my brother wouldn't open his mouth and kept say "There's a fly in my mouth" through his clenched teeth seemed just as awful and scary to him. It took my parents a while to figure out what he was saying. I slept through the whole thing. My monsters couldn't even wake me up.
