French photographer Sacha Goldberger has created a quirky photo series that perfectly expresses the timeless quality of some of our favorite superheroes and villains – by re-imagining them as 16th-century Flemish portrait models.
One of the most striking things about the “Super Flamands” photo series, other than the brilliant idea itself, is the fact that it isn’t Photoshopped (though we aren’t sure about Yoda). Those super-hero costumes, which manage to stay faithful both to the hero and to the historical period, are real, and so are the heroic look-alike models wearing them. Judging by the credits for the project and by Goldberger’s photos of the exhibit, this was a massive undertaking!

“I am so fond of super heroes, and I was also raised with Flemish paintings in my parent’s house,” Goldberger told Bored Panda.
“I always try to give my point of view on things. I try to tell a story. With this series, I am speaking about a lot of things, like European romanticism, mortality, vulnerability…“
Goldberger said that their were many unique challenges in this project: “How to find perfect super hero look-alikes? How to get animals? What would the costume look like in the 15th, 16th centuries…“
He added that the project was “the work of a team. I am only the photographer. All my team is so professional and precious. Thank you to them”
Thank you, Sacha Goldberger, for your interview with Bored Panda. Keep up the good work!

Well everyone EXCEPT for Superman and R2D2 look great. Actually better than today (to me, anyway)!
This is an amazing improvement, actually... but since when is Snow White a superhero??
I think there is to much assumption on there threads here, you have to remember the heroes regardless of era would look vastly different then what people wear in general, for example armor existed back then not to mention batman would be ahead of everyone else in inventions and toys. You have to many collars as well, and wonder women would never be caught wearing that her gear comes from her planet anyways.
"(though we aren’t sure about Yoda)" - I see no Yoda, do you mean R2D2 ?
darth vader, darth maul and joker are not superheroes!! Are you kidding e_e
I wish I was as beautiful as Cat Woman. I would NOT squander my beauty on unholy things.
Love it! Like in one of those parallel Star Trek universes.
Would have appreciated better if the poses were done according to their personality and not in these boring and non-expressive poses..haha -JOKER

look good except Iron Man, needs a different helmet and some actual armour otherwise it doesn't make much sense. It'd just be a rich guy :/
Why oh why is it always the Heath Ledger Joker? Why not Romero or Nicholson or even animated Mark Hamill? Why always the broken Joker?
