“I will write peace on your wings, and you will fly all over the world”- Sadako Sasaki.

This is a piece l just created for Pearl Harbour and Pacific Historic Parks in Hawaii for the new Sadako Sasaki display. Sadako Sasaki was two years old when the world’s first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Sadako survived the explosion but over the course of the next ten years she developed leukaemia. Japanese legend holds that anyone who folds one thousand paper cranes will be granted a wish.

While hospitalised Sadako was inspired by the legend and set out to fold one thousand origami cranes. Sadako continued to create these symbolic birds until her death in 1955, she was only 12 years old.
