The Big Three Philosophers Have Been Nested.

We are Heavy Baggage Design Studio, based in Thessaloniki and Xanthi, Greece.
We are also Athanasia Tsoukala and Evangelia Giapoutzi, a scenographer and iconographer with long educational experience with children and an architect with long working experience with non-Greeks, intrigued with how people perceive Greek culture and history.
We teamed up in 2015 to unload our beautiful yet heavy baggage on our designs and share it with people: the studio name comes from realizing how this cultural baggage we carry is impossible to ignore, a gift and a burden at the time. Our inspiration is greek culture and history and our purpose to deliver design for everyone and everywhere.
One can’t begin a study of world philosophy without talking about the thoughts and teachings of these three guys: Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, the Big Three ancient Greek philosophers, the first world class philosopher superstars.
We designed the Big Three nesting dolls as the ideal way to present how one is literally contained by the other: Aristotle was Plato’s student, who by turn was Socrates’ student.
The dolls are inspired by ancient Greek and Roman marble bust statues that represent the philosophers as well as by murals that can be found at Greek Orthodox churches across the Balkans, depicting the philosophers as an honour to their legacy. The dolls are hand painted using acrylic colours and sealant. Each set is unique.
