Giphy is synonymous with random, bizarre, and often funny animations. It isn't exactly known for its educational qualities. But that's about to change thanks to their recent decision to release a collection of GIFs aimed at teaching people sign language.

They come from Sign With Robert, an educational series starring actor and American Sign Language (ASL) consultant Robert DeMayo, and there are over 2,000 different GIFs to chose from. The looping GIF format is perfect for learning because you don't need to keep hitting play or repeat, and they're all easily accessible because they're all on one dedicated page. The collection currently includes simple words and phrases which were decided upon by Giphy based on the the most popular words that users searched for, but they plan to roll out more complex words in the future. Check out some of our favorites below. You might just learn a thing or two.

Weird. Why don't they use common signs? I can't imagine what they di to say yes. Even wasap has normal icons!

Looks more like an insult... But usually that gesture is accompained by the middle finger up in the air.

Is that for a kid who's been naughty or an adult who is feeling a bit naughty?
