This Sea-Inspired Multilayered Table Lets You Look Into The Depths Of The Ocean
The ocean-inspired table design collection by Christopher Duffy of “Duffy London” just got a new member. This time it’s a mesmerizing hand-made circular coffee table in which the perfect synthesis of wood and glass creates a mesmerizing illusion of the soothing depths of the sea.
This new design shows a geological cross-section of the ocean where the layering of wood creates a dramatic feeling of the deep waters. It took a year for the team to reach the effect of mesmeric abyss that they were looking for while experimenting with sculpted glass, wood, and Perspex. “I was looking into sheets of thick glass at my glass manufacturer’s factory, and noticed how the material darkened as they added more layers – the same way the sea does as it deepens,” explained designer Christopher Duffy. “I wanted to use this effect to replicate a real piece of the Earth’s sea bed. Like a mythical power had lifted a perfect rectangle straight from the Earth’s crust to use as his personal ornament.”

Share on FacebookThis is marvelous. What craftsmanship combining art with function. I LOVE the concept.
That's cute. I kinda wish there was a small treasure chest barely visible from the bottom, or a shiny object somewhere near the hole. ♥
That would be cool. Maybe some little LED lights placed in strategic areas! Awesome.
