Albania is quite a hype destination for travellers. I hardly met other wandering folks during my 2-weeks roaming the coasts and mountains of this beautiful and wild country. Even 30+ countries after, Albania managed to completely win over my heart.
Though I’d love to keep all the hidden treasures all to myself, it would be completely unfair. The world really needs to know more about this gem and the amazing people living there!
P.S. Though I’ve barely scraped the surface this time, I know I will return for more exploration later on.

First, there are the beaches of Ksamil
Turquoise water and hardly any people around if you wander off a bit.

Heck, those beaches are so great that even bear cubs come to swim there!
And did I already mention you won’t rub elbows with others?
But wait, there’s even more blues in Albania
Syri i Kalter (or the Blue Eye) – a natural spring is hidden in a lush valley some 20 km off from Sarande will keep you seriously impressed.
Yep, and that’s still Albania, not some tropical jungles.
The water in Syri i Kalter is so clean that you can fill up your bottle straight from the source and drink it.
You might want to get a dip, but the water is +10 C.
Just for the bravest ones like this fearless Aussie gal!

Tired of the beaches? Let’s head to the mountains!
The Balkan mountains are more than stunning and certainly worth a hike!
Venture to the top of the fortress at Gjirokastra for some epic views!

Dubbed as the Silver Town, Gjirokastra is a lovely gem hidden in the lush emerald mounts
White stone houses, narrow cobblestone lanes and extremely friendly people!
If you are into history, don’t miss Butrint
A fabulous UNESCO sight within a quick ride from Ksamil and Sarande. It’s a great ancient Roman and Greek site with some magnificent ruins to explore and trails to wander.
The kind of Game of Thrones scenery, yeah?
Albania is calling your name this summer! Will you join?
