100+ Miniature Movie Sets By Dan Ohlman Show Cinematography Before CGI
Before the invention and wide-spread use of CGI, all film sets were made by hand, some of them in miniature. Dan Ohlman, a former cabinet-maker of 15 years, fell in love with the art of the miniature in the 1980’s, and in 1989, opened the Palais de la Miniature (The Miniature Palace) in Lyons, France.
“The subtle lighting arrangement, the painstaking replication of old textures, the use of the same original materials, all contribute to the creation of a moving poetry that resonates with each new miniature panorama.”
Located in a 16th-century building in the town’s historic center, Musée Miniature et Cinéma is a 5-story museum housing 100 miniature film sets, and is the modern incarnation of Ohlman’s Miniature Palace. The detailed works within showcase the work of Ohlman and other artists, and you can enjoy some of them below.

Share on FacebookIt would have been nice if the pictures were labelled as to which movies the miniatures were made for. I think one or two were from The Godfather.
