I Use Feathers As Canvases For My Intricate Animal Paintings

I’ve always been intrigued by the lifestyles of all those who walked this Earth before us, so feather painting just always made sense to me.

I’m based in Indiana, but my work is influenced most by my Canadian heritage, and much of my featherwork gives a hard nod to the Native American culture. I do much of it by commission – many of my parrot-feather paintings depict the parrots from whom the feathers themselves fell.

Featherwork is an incredibly humbling media. The feathers splice, buckle, splinter and shred under the weight of paint. Layering them in my multi-feather formations is even more difficult to execute, as you have layers of light, airy, thinly threaded buoyancy.

"There is a burning desire in me to create. That is my driving force... to just make. A naturalist at heart, I am constantly inspired by raw materials and fueled by my emotions. All of it evokes a sense of wonderment, and I see great beauty not only within the transformation of ourselves, but also in the world around us. I truly hope you enjoy traveling this journey with me."
