I Designed An Internet-Blocking Chair To Keep You Offline
Today we spend more and more time looking at screens of our smartphones. We pull out our smartphones unconsciously whenever we have a free moment, which prevents us from focusing on one thing, and simply from relaxing. Studies show that an average user unlocks his phone 110 times per day.
I designed the Offline chair to change these customs by using special pocket that blocks off mobile and WI-FI signals. This allows the user to get a moment of quietness without constantly hearing the sound of a ringing phone.
The chair is upholstered with soft covering fabric that provides cozy, intimate, comfy and silent space around the user. It makes you feel safe and isolates you from the surrounding environment.

Share on FacebookWith the speed at which technology changes these days, it's quite easy to overlook, but there is actually a little button, usually on the edge, on every smart phone or tablet today which can be used to turn it off. It's even possible to turn off all of the notifications so that the phone won't distract even when it is turned on. I imagine you feel like a bit of a twit now, huh? Sorry.
I appreciate the intention, but, first - there's no place to put my legs, so not cozy, I like to half-lay down while reading a book in a such a chair, for example, or just take a nap, as the photo suggests; second - I don't think I really need it myself, excess technophilia and smart phone addiction seem to be a little overrated.
I don't know how long I could stay in that chair it definitely says "Time out " Yes, we can turn off sound and notifications but that takes willpower. I think the blocking chair is a symbol of our cry for help. Help us find time for ourselves away from our smartphones. I think so much time looking at the screen has damaged my eyes.
