Pink Peony Layer By Layer: I Captured My Painting Process.

The well known dialogue from the movie Shrek goes:
Shrek: Ogres are like onions.
Donkey: They stink?
Shrek: Yes. No.
Donkey: Oh, they make you cry.
Shrek: No.
Donkey: Oh, you leave em out in the sun, they get all brown, start sproutin’ little white hairs.
Shrek: No. Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it? We both have layers.

The truth is that not only Ogres, onions and cakes have layers, also paintings on canvas. Acrylic is perfect medium for working in layers. It dries fast and permits to move to next step quickly. Working fast is essential when one works with living and fast dying model like flower. Painting in layers is for me the way to achieve the transparency and luminosity I wish. Where one layer gleams through the next one. Layers give to the painting 3D dimension, make it vivid and bring it to life.
I captured my painting process while painting pink Peony.
