Singapore Airlines is one of the crown jewels of Singapore. Our uniforms were specifically designed to incorporate elements from all the four main races and our crew represent Singapore. So from my perspective, it boggles the mind that they are not showing off their own people. Perhaps it's not the same for all countries and I might be projecting from my own bias.

Daria, just to add on because of some really idiotic comment below about how Chinese women are ugly, as a Chinese myself (not from China though), I think Chinese (and other Asians, for purposes of this discussion I am referring to a particular type of Chinese and Asian 'look' with less pronounced noses and smaller eyes, like me LOL) are underrepresented internationally. Even with the Korean craze, the stereotype is that they can achieve 'beauty' only by plastic surgery. Choosing models that look traditionally Caucasian just perpetuates the idea that only the Western ideal of beauty is the gold standard. Noted your point, but EVEN IF I accepted that these were native Chinese, I think it does signify something that they deliberately chose people from that particular region instead of more of their 'Chinese stereotype' (which I'm still not convinced is such a 'stereotype' at all - stereotype suggests it's not true.).

Way off-topic but since you decided to bring it up, let me explain why Singaporeans are so 'unfriendly'. For every one expat who "bring economy" to Singapore (although if their standard of English is anything like yours I sincerely doubt the 'economy' they are 'bringing'), he usually brings along two to three dependants: a spouse and one or two kids. So for every expat this is what we get: Gain: some 'economy', 3-4 consumers. Loss: 1 job that could have gone to a Singaporean of any race; 1 or 2 spaces in schools and scholarships for Singaporean children; 4 additional people's worth of strain on our infrastructure such as housing, healthcare, transport; a corresponding increase in taxes and property prices as new demand; a corresponding increase in the consumer price index. Your first thought will be to try and accuse me of stereotyping, but when you ask general questions like why Singaporeans are so unfriendly with "expats who bring economy", you will get general answers like that.

A single comment, on a single post, hardly signifies that I "want to pick a bone from anything about China". If you see me going around hunting for posts about China and complaining about them then yes your comment would be justified. As of now, it isn't. Don't be so sensitive without any grounds.
