This Artist Is Turning Old Scrap Metal Into Delicate Plants And Trees, And The Result Is Amazing
Dan Rawlings is a self-taught artist based in Gloucestershire, UK, who works with “recycled tools, unloved canvases, tired skateboards and anything else he finds” and turns them into beautiful tree and plant sculptures that merge with nature. He uses a variety of tools including files, grinders, scalpels and welders, and he believes the process of making something is just as important as the end result.
“Much of my childhood was spent marveling at anybody who could make things with their hands,” wrote Dan on Bored Panda. “And I’ve made a conscious effort to learn as much about as many things as possible. I regularly jumped from job to job just to pick up inside knowledge or to learn new skills.”
One of his most eye-catching pieces, titled Nature Delivers, is a white delivery truck cut to resemble the trees of a forest. It was commissioned by Kendal Calling and Walk the Plank for the Lost Eden festival, but somebody sadly set it on fire earlier this year. Still, the artist didn’t take it to heart. “I guess it’s become a collaboration with someone I don’t know,” he joked on Instagram. See below for a collection of some of his best work.
