16-Year-Old Travels Through Time Portraying How She Would Have Looked From The 1920s To 2010s
Have you ever wondered what you might have looked like as a hippie in the 70s or as a flapper in the roaring 20s? 16-year-old Ohio State University student Annalisa Hartlaub has, which is why she created a series of photos that send her back in time to flaunt some of the most notable fashions of the last century.
Hartlaub came up with the idea for her project, “Counter // Culture,” for a photography class project at her school. The name arose from her choice to compare and contrast the fashions worn by the mainstream and counter-cultural groups of each decade. Besides her careful attention to makeup, detail, and historical fashion sense, Hartlaub also made sure that the images themselves would all look like photographs from their respective eras.
“I’ve always been fascinated, and a bit infatuated, with counterculture and how it shapes society and mainstream culture as well,” Hartlaub told HuffPost. “So I decided to mix that interest with my love of fashion, makeup, and photography to create something.”
Hartlaub’s project gives us the opportunity to examine decades of fashion evolution in a matter of minutes and come to truly appreciate just how much fashion diversity we’ve had over the past century. Which era looks best on her? Which era do you think would look best on you?
