Rape And Consent Explained In 7 Simple Comics By Alli Kirkham

One of the most controversial points in the modern discussion of rape is consent – by failing to communicate, rapes can sometimes occur without the rapist even understanding what they’ve done or why the victim feels the way they do. Comic artist Alli Kirkham helped clear the question up with a series of 7 comics that illustrate sexual consent issues with everyday situations that are easier for everyone to understand.
For most, the word “rape” conjures up images of shadowy hooded figures sexually assaulting people at night. Violent criminals don’t concern themselves with consent, which covers the uncertain ‘grey area’ that many people are confused about. According to RAINN, an anti-sexual-violence organization in the U.S., 47% of rapists are the victim’s friend or acquaintance and 4/5 of assaults are by someone known to the victim. Men and women need to educate themselves about consent to avoid crossing each others’ boundaries without even knowing it.

Every so often, when yet another incident (Gillette ad) of implying all men are guilty of the actions of a few (for the purpose of diminishing men, in the name of power), I'm reminded of this condescending 'control your inner rapist' screed. So glad it's still up.

I call b******t. This assumes all guys have the propensity to rape, and we need to be taught with lame analogies why rape is not justified. Guess what douchebags, we already know rape is wrong! No one is justifying it! I don't think the "she's asking for it" defense has been tried in 60+ years. Way to attack a strawman though, you definitely won that battle!

Guess again "Doc", a few years ago I was raped while walking home from the store which was ONLY 5 BLOCKS AWAY. The Dr who came into the room after getting a rape kit done glared at me like I was the offender and guess what he said? That i t was my own fault for going to the store alone! As a grown woman in America, there is absolutely no reason why I should have to be escorted every time I leave my home. So don't fool yourself into thinking that rape culture doesn't exist, because I and millions of others are living proof that it still alive and just as prominent as ever.

Understand your anger however you just proved the absurdity. What a Doctor said in the ER and the defense a rapist uses in court are completely unrelated. By the way, hope the guy that assaulted you was put away for a good long time.

How on Earth does it imply all men have the propensity to rape, Mr #notallmen? It's simply explaining they the common excuses used by rapists (and too often, our society) are illogical. Clearly, some people DO need that lesson. If you don't, that's great, but I suggest you might want to turn your attention to dealing with the massive chip on your shoulder that lead you to respond you so defensively. By the way, I was raped as a 16yo virgin and never reported it exactly because of these kind b of responses. Just because something is outside your experience doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Grow up and get some insight. You've really upset me with your disrespectful, self absorbed comment.

There is never a time when rape is ok. And no woman wants to be raped. However, when an attractive woman decides to go in public in a pair of daisy dukes, showing buttcheeks, a bikini top that barely contains her breasts, she is inviting attention from someone. When she gets attention from a male that she isnt attracted to, its rape. When she gets the same attention from someone who she deems a suitable sexual partner, all is good with the world. I apologize for human nature. But there is a difference between dressing up for a night on the town, and dressing to attract a man. Are there honestly women who believe they should be able to go in public with most of their bodies exposed, and not have SOMEONE, have a sexual thought about them? They just dont like it when its not the one they WANT to show interest.

I just want to say something.. THE LAST STRIP IS COMPLETE B******T. Just because some of us wear short shorts or bikinis, does not mean we are inviting f*****g a******s to come and rape us!! What about the children who are molested everyday? "It's because they are small and defenseless." B******T. TOTAL B******T. The men (and women) who rape and sexually assault people everyday are just as at fault when they hurt teens and young adults as they are when they hurt young children. You're an idiot. This article is about helping people understand the misconceptions about rape. You really didn't read the post at the beginning of the article and you just wanted to rant and spout off nonsense. They should use this in school. You wouldnt murder someone so why would you rape someone. It's almost the same thing, you are killing a piece of them. Rape leaves a lasting scar and people need to understand that.

I am with you on some accounts. Yes some of these "situations" are horrible if it happens, but many of these examples are so absurd since it just never happens. They are making it out to sound like every does stuff like that.

That's the point, Niki. That is exactly what happens in many, many rape real life scenarios, but when you apply them to other situations, men like you, Niki, think they're absurd. If they're absurd in everyday life, why don't men think they're absurd during sex?

That's how SJWs work: attacking strawmen that don't exist, making up "crises" that don't actually exist, then demanding radical fixes for problems that don't actually exist in the real world, like the "1 in 5 girls in colleges is raped" lie. There is no "rape epidemic" in college or in the US at large. FBI crime figures show rape declining for decades. But this doesn't serve the interests of radical leftist feminists who use lies to grab power on campus, so they continue with their big lies. Like the black student busted for putting racist material on her own door, like the lesbian who faked the receipt that said "no tip we don't like your lifestyle" like the black guy who put nazi symbols on his own house and was busted on security cam, like the gay guy who fell down drunk and bruised his face and claimed he was beaten by homophobic bigots.
