Italian Artist Gives Classical Sculptures Criminal Tattoos, Makes Them Look Totally Badass
Ever wondered what well-known classical sculptures would look like if they’d joined some of the world’s scariest gangs? Then check out these incredible statues with prison tattoos all over them to see for yourself.
The “tattooist” behind them is actually Fabio Viale, an Italian artist who aims to show us a new way of looking at classical art. Using the bodies of beautiful sculptures such as the Venus de Milo as his canvas, the artist decorates them with realistic tattoo designs inspired by the patterns born in Russian gangs and the Japanese Yakuza. The end result delivers a sharp contrast between the traditional purity associated with classical sculpture art and the dark and gritty connotations of the cool tattoos they bear.

Maybe to the best choice of words but the article did elaborate that it's inspired from Russian mafia and Japanese yakuza so not entirely inaccurate.

Damn. Doesn't anyone else watch A & E or true stories or Vice etc? They aren't criminal b/c they're tattooed it's the symbolism behind the tattoos.
