Classical Paintings Are Getting A Geeky Makeover And It’s Better Than The Original
Classical art is beautiful to look at, but some of us have a hard time relating to it. A digital artist on Tumblr named Lothlenan is changing that by turning some of fine art's most timeless pieces into geeky fantasy settings. So far, they've revamped 7 tableaux, inspired by fandoms like Sailor Moon, Adventure Time, and The Legend of Zelda. It's amazing how century-old paintings take on such a modern feel when combined with elements of Anime!
If you're a geek extraordinaire and can't even deal with how flipping cool these paintings are, you're in luck - Lothlenon currently operates a Redbubble store where they sell stunning prints of each design. Who wouldn't want an impressionist Totoro-à-la-Monet on their wall?
Check out all 7 made-over masterpieces below, and don't forget to vote for your favourite!

"Woman With A Parasol" By Claude Monet
No, the new paintings are not better than the originals. Cute, yes. Better, no.
The Scream (of Nature) By Edvard Munch
I was waiting for someone to say this. I actually say this to my friend all the time
Load More Replies...This one is funny only bc Rick and Morty are funny. The same trope has been done too often.
That face you make when you have 3 tests, 6 essays, and only 1 day to mentally train yourself
"The Accolade" By Edmund Leighton
You know what... I get the feeling you're supposed to like it and that's why it was included on this post.
Load More Replies...Horrible why are they doing this to these beautiful paintings...I know I will probably get many down votes put its a stupid thing to do this and ruin the old painting with this stupid anime and cartoons I hate it
Honestly, I didnt know the first picture existed until today. You can call me uncultured or a hermit who doesnt know the light of day, but if I didnt encounter this second piece because of my interest in the Legend of Zelda franchise, I wouldnt have been introduced to this wonderful classic. I believe thats why most reboots are made today, to bring more attention to the original. Its a tribute. Now quality of the tributes is just a matter of opinion, but I think both pieces are stunning. So much love and thought, time and dedication went into each paint stroke on both canvases. As an inspiring artist, I am at awe at both of these champions.

if any single image show the obscenity of this project it is this one.
There is no comparison, the ones on the left are masterpieces, the others are just cartoons for kids.
Yes, we get it, you think they're cartoons. Just go away already.

Oh, didn't notice your comment there, Barb Logan. Can you please clarify why that is awful? Because you like the original painting or because there are two characters from a cartoon show where rumors and hints all point to them being a lot more than friends?
Load More Replies...Aaaah the details on this one too! The lollipops instead of flowers are an especially nice touch!
I also prefer original. Though I do understand why someone would copy/change it. Too lazy to find their own subject, lol. It's all good.
I really like the geek versions but totally disagree with your headline because they are emphatically NOT better! Different, cute, creative... but not better!
No it's not. Go check some paintings by the great masters in a museum and you'll see the amount of work, practice, talent, inspiration and knowledge it takes to produce such masterpieces. The ideas presented here might be more or less fun, but cannot be compared to the work, soul, care and artistry you can find in the original paintings, whether you like them or not. Plus, I've seen similar ideas but better executed. I'm not opposed to the idea, just please stop with those ridiculous titles.
Because people are too stupid to understand art? It might have been mildly impressive if she'd actually painted these, but as it is, she's just insulting her audience.
