208 Epic Photos From Burning Man 2017 That Prove It’s The Craziest Festival In The World
What started in 1986 as two friends burning an eight-foot statue on a San Francisco beach has grown into an event that sets a 105-feet tall statue on fire around the summer solstice. This year's Burning Man festival is taking place on August 27th to September 4th, but has already been responsible for stunning photos that prove how wild it actually is.
Billed as a "Radical Ritual," Burning Man 2017 has become a desert oasis for about 70,000 people. It describes itself as a "temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance." Somethings are simple to understand. Burning Man is a secular celebration of life on Earth. I originally thought of it as hedonistic and catering to the prurient interests of the masses, but realized that many (not all) had invested themselves to a lesser or greater extent in bringing their innermost feelings about this earthly existence into three dimensional form, to impress on the rest of humanity that their thoughts and ideas are valid.

Websites always show the most amazing pieces of art at Burning Man, but they fail to showcase some of the horrible treatment from alumnus burners upon people who are new on the Playa. Unfortunately over the years this Festival has evolved into a nesting center of utter wannabe nouveau riche hippie douchebags. They use the idea of togetherness, art and freedom in order to blast their brains out on drugs and try to score free cigarettes and unconsented sex. I have no doubt that people are still there for the right reasons, to support love, experience, and enlightenment, but the water supply has officially been tainted and it gets more acrid every year.

I live in Fernley they may take it out of the desert, (which is debatable, drive 15 miles away and see the dump sites) but the garbage they leave in dumpsters they overfill, on the side of the road, and worst of all down our streets is sickening!! And if you live out here you see the destruction and lack of disregard to our parks when bags and bags of garbage, sleeping pads and bags are strewn for us the residents to clean up after!

Very lovely. Some say that you can tell the state of a person's (or groups) mind in the art they create. You can also tell a lot about the state of mind of the people who appreciate the many, many different types of art. Also, genius and insanity walk hand in hand. Which in my opinion is a wonderful thing. : )

The impressive part is what's in the background! At night, the whole thing spins like a ferris wheel and theres a strobe that gives an illusion of a skeleton rowing the boat....oh, did i mentioned that the movement is powered by 3 ropes on either side that must be pulled in a concerted effort by onlookers on either side?

This is David Best's bus, and that is CNC (laser?) cut plywood. The idea to have a temple came from Best, and he generally designs them. He didn't this year, and maybe last year also.

Those ropes you see hanging is what powers this beast. The wheel starts turning and a strobe flashes at night, which then creates an illusion of skeletons in place rowing the boat!

Many of them will list attending burning man on their bio especially on Tinder as a life changing experience. They are certainly not there to express their creative spirit. Once upon a time there was a more diverse representation. Now it's all glitz and glamour like a desert runway show. Such is the evolution of all things.

Wouldn't be a neat thread if there were a bunch of people just staring at the camera. It's so funny to me how tolerance is constantly talked about but ONLY if it falls in line with the collective "your" beliefs. Please people think a little before spouting off things just because you don't think they're real.

-es, I can assure you ARE real. The whole point of Burning Man is Radical Inclusion, so people big and small go out there and are able to be themselves. In my humble opinion it is a bit ignorant to think that anyone who is pretty and skinny is photoshopped just because that's not how everyone looks. How about looking at the pictures as art and if you don't like them then DON'T LOOK. Also I'm guessing that the reason you don't see bigger people in some of these pictures is because the majority or larger people cannot do the poses these thin fit people are doing and it

Wow just wow, as hard as it may be for some to believe the pretty women in their awesome outfits ARENT airbrushed models they ARE real people. Now I'm absolutely not a small woman by any stretch of the imagination but in a society where people preach acceptance there sure are a lot of judgy people around who for some reason or another believe that the other pictures aren't real. I agree with Willie!! Overall, this was fascinating for observing the interesting element that IS Burning Man, however, only choosing hot chicks is also tasteless. That is NOT the true mission of BM. Quite disappointed with the constant barrage of perfection... let's see more of the quirky!!! Too bad.

Going on this set of images, Burning Man is a stripper/Instagram model convention with some incidental artwork.......it’s a shame that even with a festival that celebrates the quirky and outre, they use “stripper barbie” to showcase it

ONLY choosing hot chicks?? There's were plenty of not out-and-out hot chicks.. besides, guess what? There's a LOT of hot people at BM... and a lot of not so hot ones that do themselves up super rad and are hot. All this "Oh jeez, she's so hot... she just wants to look all hot" is just as bad as going "ewww look how fat that chick is"... so a girl is pretty and fit so she likes to dress up and get her picture taken... get over it. This is an actual part of the spectacle that is Burning Man

After all the hard work put in by the artists to build and bring their works to the playa I, for one, feel these photos are NOT burningman. These groups (from NY & LA?) Bring these model type girls to their plug and play camps to do just this. These girls are there for eye candy and photo shoots that do NOT represent the soul of BurningMan. This was a sad depiction of a beautiful and talented place.

I'm a Six Time Burner Sadly this has become the Evolution of Burning Man. Professionally Posed Models. it appears Max age is maybe 22 Perfection. The idea of Radical Inclusion and Radical Self Reliance wasnt depicted Here and is less and less remembered as an edict of the Original Premise of Burning Man. Now these Young Perfections should be Included yet so Should the Folks Whose Light and Souls have Brought to the Burn for 25+ Burns. We've all seen butts and boobs, we all have them, yes men and women alike. How about Some Soul. Thanks for the Pics

There is a festival based on mad max, called Wasteland Weekend. Definetly looks more crazy than this. You've got modified cars and a thunderdome and all. Its AMAZING

Other festivals in the same area have followed suit...apparently you shouldn't attend High Sierra MF if you are poor, resemble a "wook" (used to be Wookie, now it's derogatory), or have a disability requiring a service dog. Their forums are literally a bunch of hate mixed with "love my family " bs
