50 Beautiful Pics Of Ukraine That Are Heartbreaking To See Right Now
Ukraine, a democracy of 44 million people, continues to experience a devastating attack. As the world uneasily watches the 8th day of the Russian invasion, people and nations are uniting like never before, sending support and condemning this unjustified war.
Sitting in the heart of Europe, Ukraine celebrated its 30 years of independence last year. While it may seem like a young state, it has a thousand-year history. Throughout this period, it has formed a powerful and resilient nation. Citizens there developed a strong sense of national identity, showing devotion and love to its culture, traditions, architecture, communities, and beyond.
Today, brave defenders are fighting for the future of this country, and we want to showcase all of Ukraine’s unique beauty. That’s why Bored Panda scoured the internet and collected some of the most gorgeous and breathtaking pictures that capture what an incredible land it really is. The Love Tunnel, Ukraine
No thanks on the "black train", I'll take this 1 instead when I die, please and thank you! (For anyone wondering: I worked in nursing, and had numerous terminally ill patients talk about seeing a dark/black train coming before death)... super sad, but I'd much rather have this; I wish it looked like this for everyone instead!
Kyiv, Ukraine
Amazing architecture i would really hate to see it all gone.... Of course the lives of the people are more important but this is also devastating
It's like when Notre Dame burned a few years ago. We were glad nobody was seriously hurt, but at the same time the building was a historical icon in its own right. And it's okay to mourn the loss of something that we know we won't be able to recreate.
Load More Replies...It is so chilling and heartbreaking how so much beauty, lives, history and culture can get destroyed by a pyschopath.
I just keep saying to myself, how exquisite and how horrific it might look now. What a crime not just against humanity but against history and dramatic architecture.
My tears run like fountains as I see this beautiful city, now damaged by the illegal invaders.
Somebody is going to burn in hell for destroying such a beauty and people.
Oh, my, that's like a fairyland; this is just so sad and should never have happened!!
Church Of St. Nicholas On The Water
There has to be a story behind why the church is located there. I'd be interested in knowing the background.
We reached out to Alina Kisina, a Ukrainian-born photographer, artist, curator, and advocate for creativity working in the UK. In her work, she tries to find harmony in chaos through universal human qualities that reach beyond location, gender and social background. "I'm heartbroken and worried sick about everyone in Ukraine, not just my parents, childhood friends, and creative partners," she told Bored Panda.
"Putting the complex history, political dynamic and conspiracy theories to one side for a minute, I'm simply in pain for all those human beings who, just like most of us, were peacefully going about their daily life, working, raising children, creating something, saving for a vacation and now suddenly have to hide in a bomb shelter, flee and fight for their country and its basic freedoms," Alina said.
"I feel their fear and devastation, but also their courage and determination. And although I share the optimism, it's still going to be messy and tragic, and the cost will be not only human life today, but resentment and hatred for generations to come."
House Of Scientists - Lviv, Ukraine
I’ve seen this before, the weird carpet runner situation is to save the beautiful tile floor.
Are you talking about his house in the comics? Or about the sanctum? It really does look like that!

Old wonderful carving and structure of many years ago may it remain untouched for future generations.
To be frolicking through these halls and up the stairs in a white ballgown is the dream
Breathtaking of the beauty. I pray for the Ukraine and hope that this war will come to an end soon.
Freedom Is Our Religion. Kyiv, 2017
How fitting. I think Putin will soon learn that the Ukrainians really mean that.
Unfortunately, I don’t think Putin will learn that, because he doesn’t care.
Load More Replies...Love it! Freedom always! Democracy is best! Dictatorships are like living in a burning hell…where Putin & oligarchs should be!
You shouldn't have to fight for your freedom. It is the right of any human being!
Putin will continue to bomb Ukraine as he knows the people are resilient, loyal and strong. He considers all his army of soldiers will scare them by sheer numbers, so he is now choosing to drop the banned scatter bombs do so much destruction that lasts in different ways even after they have not detonated at first drop they will later. If only someone could execute him capture and legal actions are not for a despot as he, for whilst he rules Russia he will gain more personal delusions of power as any global monster
Vozdvizhenka - A Pearl Of Kyiv. The Elite Micro District Of The City. Each Element And Color Perfectly Refined, They Show A Real Rainbow
What a lovely place if only we could visit and blend in with I'm sure are wonderful beautiful people, it's devastating to think how in a flash all this was destroyed and changed peoples lives for ever.
Alina moved to the UK when she was 19 and since then has created her home there. However, she revealed that Ukraine is a place of great inspiration and creative freedom she connects to every time she’s there. "It has its own fresh creative energy, irresistible buzz, and infectious ambition oozing out of so many passionate people who manage to do truly great things in art, culture, and education with very limited resources," she added.
"Ukraine is a beautiful country with its tremendous history and stunning natural reserves. I have a soft spot for Ukraine's many rivers, especially those that flow through cities like Kyiv, Dnipro, and Uzhgorod."
The artist recounted that her special place of respite is "a tiny village in the middle of nowhere in the picturesque Carpathian Mountains in Zakarpattia — a perfect hidden place to recharge and enjoy the simple life in serenity."
Just A Metro Station In Kyiv
Christmas Tree At Sofiyivska Square In Kyiv, Ukraine
A madman let loose to destroy all the beauty. How sad. But you cannot destroy their spirit.
I just sat and stared at this one, thinking what a shame that putin came along to destroy the lives of these people and their beautiful country!! 😭😭😭😭
Old Wooden House In A Forest. Ukraine, The Forest Next To Zbrui Village
Definitely reminds me of something from a fairytale or fantasy novel.
Ukraine’s nature, architecture, and landscapes are truly breathtaking, and its culture is strong in many traditions: music, art, cuisine, and more. The country has deep customs, wealthy talent, and a long cultural legacy. People there are known for their soft and generous hospitality, even when they’re facing the most difficult times in their lives.
According to Alina, Ukraine's culture is rich, colorful, and vibrant. "I'm a big fan of Ukrainian folk music with all its playfulness and cheer but also beautiful soulful sadness — both translate into the contemporary music scene beautifully."
Stanislav Grand Canyon In Kherson Moutains, Ukraine
how have i not seen this before, this is actually really cool looking.
Dried river or fault line? It reminds me of Mariana's Trench but not as deep.
Church In Voevodyno, Transcarpathia, Ukraine
Kind of reminds me the hobbit houses from lord of the rings and the countryside of New Zealand

I LOVE the mint green with the darker green-blue trimming! Such pristine and gorgeous buildings.
I would love to see the inside of these homes. Of course, they could be rubble now.
I CANT TAKE IT UKRAINE WASSSSSSS SOOOOO GORGOUES HE NEEDS TO BE KILLED NOWWWWWWWWW OPUTIN
Today, people all over the world feel inspired by the brave defenders fighting on the streets and outskirts of the attacked cities. The Ukrainian flag is everywhere — waved in the air by thousands marching in protests, draped from the balconies in both big and small cities, attached as pins to the jackets of everyone showing support. People are ready to help, showing great faith in the future of this land.
Spring In Kyiv, Ukraine
I read recently about an artificially created famine. It was made by Russia, they took all grain settled Russian people on the farming land. it was called THE HOLODOMOR AND MILLIONS OF UKRAINIANS DIED. unmarked graves are still being unearthed today. it started in 1919 and ended in 1932
Staryi Solotvyn, Zhytomyr Region
Indeed. I'd FIGHT (only YOU!) for it. How quaint. Sheesh..... just kidding, on the fight.... we could share.

The calmness in this photo is shattered knowing what hell Putin is putting this country through
Pillow Sculpture In Kyiv
I've been to the pillows! There's a big cat there, too. I hope it survives. Cat-Kiev-6...9c-png.jpg
I look at these photographs now and can't help but shed tears for all that the Ukrainian people have lost!! They had such a beautiful, clean, well looked after country. And then putin came along and destroyed the calm!!
"My sincere hope is that Ukraine will successfully send Putin back home and avoid further human losses, let alone a potential nightmare of this war turning into a full-blown global conflict," Alina told us.
She wishes that Ukraine "will have a chance to recover from the shock and trauma of what for many is simply a betrayal. That the country will find the strength to transcend this devastating experience and turn it into a powerful source of togetherness, wisdom and the greatness they bring. That their new cultural identity will help build a new present and a new future, allowing the country's creativity to flourish and make this world a better and more beautiful place."
Independence Square In Kyiv
Unfortunately it was bombed two days ago after the "peace negotiation" aka blackmail didn't go like Putin wanted. It doesn't exist anymore in this exact way.
Load More Replies...Awesome. And I so agree with N G but I would add others to that list.
Found This Amazing Building While Visiting Kyiv, Ukraine
The concept is great but all I see is the number of birds who have flown into that building and possibly fallen to their deaths.
Looks like the Ukrainians make everything beautiful with their art! This is so clever!
Kyiv, Ukraine. St. Nicholas Cathedral
Too many are already gone, with no end in sight.
Load More Replies...Such a magical place. I pray the Ukraine will still have this and other beautiful places when peace is restored. 🇺🇦
Sadly, the Communist Regimes will tear these stunningly beautiful churches down since they are athiest and have no belief in God. In Communism, only the Government and dictator is worshipped, no other God before them! Such a sad state of affairs, and this church is absolutely the most beautiful Cathedral I've ever seen.
"Like any war, even the best of possible scenarios will bring a lot of tragic consequences. Instead of strengthening cultural links and understanding between people, it will multiply separation and hatred which will take decades to undo."
Alina concluded by saying that "too many people on either side of this war had no interest in it, yet they will pay the price. Perhaps it's too early to think about it but I'm already asking myself: what will it take and what can we do to not only repair the damage and bring healing but also make sure it doesn't happen again?"
"Keep In Touch". Popasna, Donbass, Ukraine
When I asked the kids what was the meaning of this painting, they mostly answered that it spoke about love.
In Popasna, the war divides people, not only geographically but also in their convictions. This wall is a tribute to the children of Popasna who manage to stay together despite the adults' madness.
I can’t think of how many children witness the tragic events. I hope they all managed to escape and being ok
I saw a Ukrainian mother crying the other day that her little boy has lost his innocence in just a few days..... His eyes were terrified his smile was gone trying to figure out what is happening and why.... it's so sad that they actually stop being children anymore with this weight on their shoulders
Load More Replies...I cannot fathom how this war is affecting children and teenagers who were only just a week ago in school, playing with friends, seeing family, and just living. War destroys so many things and it is disgusting that one psychopath is trying to steal this innocence.
The innocence of children is lost in Ukraine as they have to witness the terror going on in their country.
Some of the people in the picture… might not be alive. They will never see their pure Ukraine again. They will never grow up to be scientists, or doctors, or whatever they wanted to be. Stop others from dying. Donate to Ukraine.
We now know (April 8th) just how many young lives in Ukraine have been tragically annihilated.
Motherland Monument In Kyiv, Ukraine (102m - Taller Than Statue Of Liberty). Museum Of WW2 Inside
I wish those responsible for this war enter the museum and live the horror again cause they seem to have forgotten it!
Nah, that bastard just doesn't care. I hope someone assassinates him soon like he deserves.
Load More Replies...Putin has been telling the soldiers that the Ukrainians want to be saved from Nazi-ism. Their president is Jewish and Putin made sure that a holocaust museum was obliterated.
Holodomor Victims Memorial - Kyiv, Ukraine
For those who don’t know Holodomor was genocide, perpetrated by the Soviet government, upon Ukraine. Millions starved to death. The photographs of it are some of the most heart wrenching images you could ever see.
If you have Hulu, watch the movie Mr. Jones. Very difficult to watch but it will explain what happened. Stalin also gathered and thus killed another 6,000 people. Cannibal Island on Amazon. No wonder the Ukranian people don't want any part of Mother Russia.

Load More Replies...Chimaeras are cartilaginous fish in the order Chimaeriformes, known informally as ghost sharks, rat fish, spookfish, or rabbit fish; the last three names are not to be confused with rattails, Opisthoproctidae, or Siganidae, respectively.
Beyond the terrible loss of human and animal life, the destruction of any of the beautiful historic buildings in Ukraine, is just heartbreaking. Russia should have to pay to restore the country. What a tragedy.
"Golden Gate" Is One Of The Most Beautiful Metro Stations Not Only In Ukraine, But Also In Europe
This photo bring about sadness as we know it is now being used to protect innocent lives.

I was thinking along the same lines. We're these previously those plain housing blocks found in all the former Soviet Union cities? If so, congratulations to Kyiv for doing something to remove that look from their landscape.

Uzhgorod, Ukraine
That looks so cool, looks like a fun place to sit. I wonder if it overflows a lot.
This country is magnificent. And Putin has been destroying so much of it's historical beauty. You can't put a price on that or his consequences. But he will have some. I'd love to hear in Ukraine if it weren't so close to Russia. I do love the Russian people though. I pray for them as I do for Ukrainians.

Soviet-Era Architectural Features In Kyiv - Does Anyone Know What These Features Symbolised?
The star inside the red rhombus is the soviet star, you can find it on the red soviet flag too. The symbol in the second rhombus looks like a communist coat of arms.

The interesting fact about this place is that you can swim here with the dolphins. The dolphinarium in the hotel is always a plus, I discovered an additional attraction - flying a drone with seagulls.

Beautiful cities, beautiful country, beautiful people molded by centuries of hardship that build character and nurture hope. Hardship and suffering interspersed with periods of peace gives joyous expression to hopes fulfilled. Troubled, self-centered, and ungrateful America has had it too easy to understand what freedom truly means. I am an American and I love my country, but the character of Ukraine and its people shames us. Ukraine da!

The Railway Station Of Odessa
The first thing that appeared to my eyes after reaching Odessa. I remember the respect I felt when I looked at this building after leaving the train at 5 a.m., which took me through half of Ukraine. I realized that I am at the other end of Europe, I am surrounded by different realities and a culture different from the one I know every day.

Visiting Kyiv For The First Time Ever. Your Country Is More Beautiful Than I Ever Could Have Imagined
This Is A Photo I Took At 5:30 AM In Kyiv
I must admit that I never really thought about Ukraine before the invasion. And I am deeply embarrassed now, that country is STUNNING! Why did I not know that? I want to apologize to all Ukrainians for my ignorance. I really hope that I can visit one day when the war is over.
Me either; it really does looks stunning! I will add it to my bucket list and pray the war is over really soon

Its disgusting that such a glorious, charming, and delightful place now looms in the darkness because of Putin. Prayers that this beautiful country will have peace and beauty restored soon.
At my school (usa) we are being told to wear blue and yellow to stand with Ukraine 🇺🇦
Kudos to your school principal....she has a heart! suggestion: have the kids learn' Slava Ukraina' and the response...'Slava Heroyam"

A beautiful country and I fear what Putin is doing to it. How much of this Stunning Country will survive this brutality?
I did not really know ukraine before the build up at it's borders. What a beautiful Country. How can Putin destroy such beauty and the wonderful people of Ukraine. I do not understand how one can be so hateful. Ukraine and it's people are in my prayers. We must stand with them and let them know they are not alone.
Thank you for these beautiful photos. Ukraine is beautiful. I hope all of these beautiful architectural sites aren’t destroyed by the Russians.
